Meteor shower

One of the year’s best meteor showers will have its peak tomorrow or the day after (May 6). The Eta Aquarids. Could be as many as 70 per hour. Good conditions this year in Bali - hardly any Moon.

These meteors are basically left-over stuff from Halley's Comet. Our planet is hurtling into the path of that cosmic spoof.

Don't worry about the technicalities. This is a predawn shower. This means you should get up an hour or two before dawn and point your eyes towards the East (where the Sun rises). You'll also see the current beautiful conjunction of the Moon, Venus, Mars, Mercury and Jupiter.

I'd love to see this too - but whether its the Illiads (something like that) that happen every fall/winter in the northern hemisphere or these it seems to be fated to be cloudy and overcast so I see bugger all. Last night was the same here in East Bali - raining and thundery at night - shouldn't complain as the days are lovely but still...

I know the feeling. Same thing's happened to me several times in the past five years, including the other night. If it's not the Moon getting in the way, it's clouds and rain.

There are a few more "showers" coming up. Unfortunately, the Moon will be a problem.

Still - at least you tried.
