Hello all -- I stumbled across this site in doing some research for my Honeymoon, so I hope I do this right.
We are heavily considering Bali for our Honeymoon, however looking over the US Embassy's website I came across a host of travel warnings to all places in Indonesia, and the more I read the more concerned I got.
It seems like a lot of the warnings pertained to places other than Bali, but nonetheless want to see if anyone has an American's perspective on travel safety to Bali. Is there a real threat for Americans in Bali?
Any insights would greatly appreciated!
Dear Smashy
Been to bali many many many times never any problems. I live in calif now but i have relatives in bali .
I will remark on some precautions from my own expierence.
Dont do the "tourist flaunt",meaning try and blend in,eat from the small eatery's eat indonesian food, dress if poss like an indonesian Bali native, meaning no glitsy jewelry, expensive watch, name brand suitcase/handbags,stay in out of the mainstream hotels, shop away from large dept stores and in my oppinion stay away from the 'bars'.....yes i know that's alot, but you enjoy the island more if you go off the beaten path hang out with the 'people in bali' not the other tourists. Go to area's many tourist do not visit like the north, and east side....not only kuta and ubud. They are sadly lacking tourism because of bad press, but bali is the island of peace,as you will see. And yes there are american's that live on bali some own entire villages in ubud that just love it there .
Dont worry, book your flight and you wont regret it,there is no place on this planet like Bali.
