Hi,
My name is Sara and I am a student at Williams College, in the United States. I am very interested in the economics of Bali and am hoping to find a contact or an economist who is doing any type of research in Bali. I am an Economics major and am concentrating in Environmental studies and Maritime studies. If there are any opportunities to help with research projects, that would be ideal. Also, do any of the Bali universities offer classes taught in English? (like Economics, Science, Politics, etc.) Thank you for time!
Sincerely,
Sara Davidson

Thank you for your help and encouragement! I hope more who read can assist me in some way! :D
Here is some additional information and specifics regarding Sara’s research plans in Bali:
So here's the situation. I am majoring in Economics and concentrating in Maritime studies and Environmental studies. My hopes are to spend my Junior year abroad in Bali (Sept. 2009- June 2010). I plan on taking intensive language classes at Udayana University through the BIPA program as well as some culture/history classes, all taught in English. If there were Economics classes offered in English, I would be very interested in those. Even if I could do an independent study with an Economics professor who taught me one on one a course in English, that would be great! In order to legitimize my academic plans to Williams, I will need to do research on my own, research with a specialist in the field, and/or take Economics classes. I thought I could conduct my own research (in the areas of economic development, development policies of Bali, agricultural development, tourism industry, environmental impacts of economic/agricultural development, population trends and family planning, etc. ... I really have not found one definite research project, and am open to many ideas). Or, I thought I could help work on research already taking place in Bali, in the realm of Economics and or environmental studies/maritime studies. If either of these two ideas were to work out, I would be thrilled.I hope that answers your question and I look forward to hearing any advice or guidance you have for me. Sincerely, Sara
Try the SMERU Research Institute (Lembaga Penelitian SMERU). They are Jakarta-based but do socioeconomic reserch throughout Indonesia. Last year they researched the economic impact of the Bali and Jakarta bombings, and worked quite a bit in Bali so would have contacts here. They would have some contacts for you, but they are also an excellent source of information on socioeconomic issues in Indonesia. http://www.smeru.or.id
