    Talking Bali at christmas

My family are coming to Bali for 6 weeks over Christmas. We have been to baki before and we are after a deeper cultural experience this time. Can you please suggest some places to go, visit and stay during the time. We are planning seminyak as a base but hope to travel all round the island of Bali and also off to some smaller islands. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

well that's must be many places you need to visit in bali, but seminyak is the best place to be a base.

I would have thought that for a deeper cultural experience, anywhere away from Seminyak & Kuta would be better. For example, much of the tourism around Ubud is aimed at those who are "searching" for something.

Do some Google searches with 2 words, "ubud" and one more word like spiritual, wellbeing, wellness, yoga, retreat - and just browse.

Alternatively, look at Tripadvisior, they have a listing of Things To Do In Ubud - there are around 70 and include cooking classes and spas, but also things like eco cycling, herbal walking, healing centre, etc.

Or you can get further away than Ubud and still find reasonable hotels. For example, Manggis (between Padangbai and Candi Dasa), Sidemen, around Lake Batur, or Tirta Gangga - to think of a few around the south east. The Lonely Planet Guide is useful in finding places like these.

Then there is all of North Bali and West Bali still to be explored.

Quite correct Ronb...i can't think of a worse place than seminyak at christmas!!...and as you suggest the further away from the tourist areas would be a great experience...for myself i cannot think of anywhere nicer than the countryside of Gianyar/Ubud/Batubulan to name just a few.....same as Nyepi...go to the country to see a real Nyepi...not a tourists version as in Kuta!

Totally agree sonny, having to spend anytime in that area gives me a migraine. I have family coming over for Christmas. My daughter has just told me she has booked Potato Head for Christmas lunch!!!! uhmmm thinking I may be very ill that day, driving from Ubud to Seminyak is a nightmare anyway, let alone on that day in particular......
I have just learnt that pleasing everyone is impossible. But, pissing them off is a piece of cake

You can visit different places of Bali like:

    Cucukan beach
    The Blancho Renaissance Museum
    Keramas beach
    Tirtagangga Water Garden
    Mango Tree Spa.
