New Ebay scam.

Postby mileage on Tue Apr 01, 2008 7:57 am

I thought I had won a nice new Sony Vaio laptop pc early this morning for a good price, only to have the seller withdraw his store an hour later. Originally I thought I was dealing with Nathan from Australia, whom had a good user rating. An email turns up from Ming Lv stating that I can finalize the transaction by wiring his account in China, and get this, I'll receive a bad feedback rating on Ebay if I don't finalize the account within 3 days! What a prick!
Be aware!

There are plenty of ways you can handle this with eBay...one is to write to safeharbor@ebay.com and forward correspondence to you from the seller to them. It happens from time to time that accounts on eBay get hi-jacked by others and used in this manner.

Good luck, and worry about your feedback. Cheers

G'day Roy, Jamie and other readers.....
I thought that I'd do the right thing. I wrote to safe harbour at ebay, spoof and aurswebhelp at ebay too, informing them of this seller and supplied all the relevant details. Generic replies returned. All telling me the obvious, (don't pay), meanwhile I've received 3 other emails insisting that I finalize from this person.
I received a phone call from a guy in Perth the other night whom is in the same boat, being harassed by this seller. If a bloke can track me down to discuss this matter in one afternoon, you have to wonder why the ebay fraud squad can't get in contact with this seller to tell him to lay off. Makes you wonder why we bother chasing it up...... Backlog, I guess.
Ebay call this sales process "phishing". It's becoming more common.

When I first joined eBay, back in 1996, it was still being run as a “mom and pop” shop by it co-founders, Pierre and Meg. It’s come a long, long way since back then, and not without a whole host of problems.

One other thing you might consider is to use the Community Boards and make a posting there about this seller.

http://forums.ebay.com/db2/forum.jspa?forumID=107

On that same community discussion board, you will read of others with similar problems as you are having, and the manner in which they resolved the problem.

It is my understanding that once you have reported this seller to eBay Safe Harbor (Trust & Safety) they cannot leave you with negative feedback.

Cheers and good luck.
