Hi, Where can I find a ladies hairdresser, preverable an aussie one.
I have tried for 4x to get a perm and again I look like a plucked chicken.
I do not know what they study at the hairdressing collage in Indonesian, they do not know much about a perming hair.
Please I do need help,

I can't recommend a hairdresser in Bali as I don't live there, but I believe the reason why you haven't had any luck with your perms is because Indonesian trained hairdressers don't know how to properly handle caucasian hair.

Find out if there's any international names there and ring them to see if any of them has been trained to handle caucasian hair. Good luck!

Irma is right, caucasian hair has a very different texture and requires someone who knows how to handle it.

I know it's probably a bit far for you from Singaraja, but I've frequented a salon in Legian called "Celebes" in Jalan Padma Utara. It's just around the corner from Jalan Padma.

I'd recommend Poppy or Olah, as they're both used to dealing with bule hair. Olah permanently straightened my friend's hair last September and she's over the moon with the result.

Last Thursday I went to the hairdresser "Celebes" as suggested, to my great disappointment they were closed for lunch. I could not wait as I had to return to Dencarick. Must try another time.

At last I found an excellent hairdresser in Sanur. Australian trained.She gave me a beaut of a perm

Didnt think this thread would be worth reading, but how wrong can you be eh. I think the following quote has made me think twice about going for a haircut and not a skinhead or shaved all over look ;

Yes i thinks me will check carefully if indeed the hairdresser can indeed 'handle it'

thats great news, especially for me. i have unruly hair so i had a thermal straightening done here in LA & it costed me a fortune. however, the results were spectacular. even in the extreme humidity in ubud, my hair still behaved. how much did ur friend pay?

I also have really unruly hair, made even worse by the humidity when I am in Bali. I had the chemical straightening done at Celebes in July, and it is still looking great. They also give fantastic cuts, and they will be my first stop when I am back in December!

Sunny weather is with us here in Seminyak. Ika and I took Jevon down the play beach playground at the end of Jl. Double Six. They have swings, climbing net, climbing frame, see-saw and tyres on ropes. Jevon liked meeting the other young kids. During our 30 minutes there we saw 2 other ‘bule’ families and several Balinese families.Jevon likes to reach out and touch the other kids, which often gets him a strange look from the kid he is grabbing. Will be nice when he can run around and play with other kids. Breakfast today for me was at Prana Spa. They have an outside garden and I sat under a shade. Prana is not cheap by any means but once in a while I like to step out of my comfort zone. I ordered eggs benedict for 35,000rp and a fruit plate for 25,000rp. Also a pot of LaZumba coffee, which was great.Wild hair cuts and facials are the go at New Planet, the hair stylists across from Cafe Moka. I stopped in to get my thatch sheered and enjoyed the head massages they give for free. It always makes me laugh, one lady will wash my hair, I will go and sit in the chair, and while waiting for the hairdresser, a random person will come up and without introduction start massaging my head. This last a few minutes, then they stroll off. I’ve always had thick hair so a good going over with the electric clippers gives me the feeling of freedom a sheep in New Zealand must get each spring. Cost 65,000rp. You can find way cheaper places in Kuta on Poppies I, II and Benesari if cost is a big issue for you.

Hold on… someone said something about having your hair permanently straightened!? Is that even possible? I’ve never heard of that before. What technique do they use to do that? Wouldn’t it go out at the first wash? And where can you get it done and how much does it cost? I would be really thankful for any information on the topic, this sounds really interesting! permanently straightening your hair is just like putting a permanent dye in your hair, except for instead of colour you get chemicals that straighten your hair. to keep it up you get your regrowth done every 4-8wks. As far as hairdressers in bali is concerned i have been to both New Planet and Celebes. Both of them are really good hairdressers. I personally prefer celebes, they're good a doing blonde foils and give the most amazing head massages. But then saying that my mum swears by Ariel at New Planet. Both salons are reasonably priced and i would by no means at all be scared of going to either of them.
Random question: but where in Bali can you buy blonde toner from? like the purple colour which gets rid of the golden look and makes your hair more white blonde? i'm going for about 6months next year and am planning on taking my own supply from my hairdresser at home but if i could get it up there i wont have the spend 100's and will have a lighter load of luggage. anyone know?

Manik Salon in Legian is owned and operated by mother and daughter from Melbourne. From reports all people are happy but a little expensive compared to Bali prices but then again, from reports a much better job.

Heading from Kuta to Seminyak it is just past Jalan Padma on the right hand side.

I will add this is not a personal recommendation from me as I have never used them or any other hairdresser in Indonesia for a hair cut, style or anything.
