Default Importing machinery from China to Indonesia

Hey all, I'm looking at importing a vegetable cutting machine from China to Bali early next year. Has anyone had experience doing this before?, Are there any pitfalls I should watch out for?, How much am I looking to pay to the corrupt scum bags down at the docks to get something like this released.

The Machine is valued at $1500 US

For this much, maybe you could talk to an import agent before you pay any money to have it sent. Take a look at Handy Saputra on importing to Indonesia - Dec 2, 09

I would be very careful re importations. Customs are fluid so to speak to the point i have imported cigars and not been charged any tax, imported books with 'not for resale printed on them' and had to pay customs.

My latest endeavour was a motorcycle seat valued at 170 usd and postage cost 60 usd. Customs charged 50 USD for the item. When asked are they including postage as part of their formulae they became belligerent.

A number of Chinese products are subject to free trade agreement and advise you find a import handler who actually is willing to put his money were his mouth is and advises on costs before purchase.

This thread is old, i know. How did it go? I had some problems a few years ago with inmport machinery to Indonesia. Then it was prohibited to bring used machinery to indonesia, new should be no problem. I do think that anyone that imports should seek info on: www.beacukai.go.id. Dont go for Bali if you want a smooth and cheap import, try Surabaya.
