Future career information please!!

Postby Renae on Tue Apr 17, 2007 12:48 pm

Hi, this is my first time posting on the forum. Thank you to everyone for all the great information.
Myself, my husband and our 2yr old daughter are seriously considering moving to Bali in the future (not sure when). So just wanted to start doing some groundwork now and I will have many questions over the next few weeks/months but to start with can anyone tell me the names of any recruiting agencies in Bali. My husband is trained as a Aircraft (helicopter) maintenance Engineer and a Real Estate Agent/Director/Licensee. On our last trip to Bali someone mentioned that working on Helicopters is a sought after skill in Bali (is that right?). Is there many opportunities for those types of skills (Real Estate Agent or Helicopters)
I want to set up an Organic Skincare business. Can anyone give me any leads in that area?

Thank you!!! :)

Welcome Renae....

I don't know if maintaining helicopters would be a full time job.

Maybe better ask here:

http://www.airbali.com

A real estate agent? It seems that I see a new one every week in Bali...

I don't know about skin care :( (But I could use some myself)

Recruiting Agencies in Bali ?

Never heard of any....

Its my idea however that motivated people, whatever you are going to do, can do all most anything on Bali.
That's It !!

Bert

Hi Bert,

Thanks for that! I totally agree with you about making things happen and Bali is such an amazing place with so many great opportunities.
In regards to your comments on Real Estate Agents over there - do you know if they do well or do they struggle. I know there is alot of development happening - but from this end don't really know how much is actually getting sold.
Sounds like you have been in Bali for a while. Can you also tell me how safe it is for raising kids and the general "feel" of it for a family life? I know myself I would love it but want to give my daughter a good life and upbringing also. It is hard to tell these things when you are just there for holidays sometimes.
I did study in Central Java at Uni about 10 years ago and lived with an Indonesian family - I absolutely loved it. But with a young child and work etc. it is a bit more to consider.

Thanks Bert.
Renae :)

Hi Renae and welcome.

I don't know how many times you have been to Bali so my comments may be out of order.

I know of several couples without children who are considering settling in Bali and they have gone over first and looked around gathered as much information as possible.

Bali is great for a holiday but are you ready to live there. When you are on holidays things are different than having to live the life day in and day out with all its problems and joys. I also know several people who own businesses over there and it is not easy.

There are a lot of expats and locals struggling, the ones that have to make a living in the current climate are doing it hard, not all but some.

I have been travelling to Bali since 1981 and for me I would not consider living there until retirement and I have yet to decide if I will then.

You are on the right track starting to gather information and I wish you all the luck.

Thanks Tina - I appreciate your comments. I have been to Bali many times - but I know that it doesn't give a real insight into living there. So I think I will "hang out" at the forum and get more of a feel for things that way. As with any major choices in life it can be hard to know which way to go.

Hi Renae

My wife and I met the owners of Air Bali at a family/locals gathering in Ubud earlier this year. In conversation it seemed to us that AB had everything under control as far as maintaining their small business (staff wise) was concenred.

On the other hand, key personel do come and go. Why don't you make an enquiry via the link Bert gave you.

You could be pleasantly surprised

Ranae, too bad he doesnt repair jet aircraft, seeing thier problems they have with local airlines, appears they have very little qualified maintenance personel,,,,Organic skincare-- Arbonn by any chance? I think someone would do well with Arbonn in Bali- my sister in Law sells it, all the ladies are crazy over it here, plus it also appeals to the tree hugger,Retro,Hippi,etc..types that you will find in Bali.. Some ex pats,Locals will pay big$$ for good products, especially if it has U.V protection... good luck on the Tarrif's though...

Hi again,

Thanks Dasha and Froggy for the advice. I am sorry that I didn't reply sooner - I only just realised where my post had ended up..! I am new to this whole forum thing but look forward to checking it out when I can. I think it is fulfilling a part of me that just can't stop thinking about being in Bali.
Froggy is that skincare product from Bali or elsewhere? I just haven't heard of it before. Anyway, I will look it up on the internet.

Bye for now,
Renae.

No froggy, Arbonn does not originate from Sweden! it`s Switzerland ... but it is a common mixup among americans so don`t feel embarressed.
