Sparky, there are no apologies needed. My only point is that Iraqi life, culture, and their way of doing things is most certainly far, far beyond the way you or I were raised, and what we embrace in our lives.

Force feeding democracy on cultures like Iraq, and so many other cultures in this world with American/western ideology is wrong. The American, or western way is just that...the American, or western way, and the more we try to inject our ways upon other lands, the more we will fail.

The most sickening aspect of forced western democracy on other vulnerable nations is the real reason behind these “noble causes” and that is, what’s in it for us? In Iraq, it is clearly oil, and lots of it. There are many other places on this earth where outrageous crimes against humanity are committed every day, as in Dafur, but where are the American holders of the light of democracy, and defenders of righteousness to defend them? They are absent. They are absent because there is nothing to gain.

They are absent because there is nothing to gain from taking the high moral ground for its own sake. American foreign interests are clearly seen in the world for what they are...money, money, more money and that all sickening phrase, “American interests.” Just what the "f" IS American interests, and why do those interests take precedence over all other people's interests? THE COLD WAR is over! American interests are GLOBAL interests!

The founders of America are likely rolling in their graves with what has become America. Those noble and venerable ideas that formed the great democracy of the United States have been abdicated into wealth building, power base, and influence.

But, the reality is that most Americans are totally ignorant about the world around them. I am amazed almost daily, meeting Americans, first timers in SE Asia, that I sometimes meet in Bali. The vast majority of these folks are totally, and I mean TOTALLY clueless about even the most basic aspects like geography, history, culture diversity...you name it.

I can only hope that with the Democratic party takeover of the Senate and the House, there will be some wisdom and common sense re-installed in our governmental system. Both these legislative houses have a great deal of work to do, and not the least of these tasks is to try to restore international respect for the United States of America.

Froggy, the idea of closure with most family members of a violent crime in civilized societies is not found in a lynching of the perpetrator for another crime.

Rather, this closure is found in the courts of democratic nations.

The vast majority of the family survivors of Saddam’s rein of terror, and the almost countless deaths he is responsible for are now left in a vacuum. Saddam will never be found guilty of the crimes against humanity as they relate to the Kurds. The fact is obvious. The Kurds are left with an empty plate which was supposed to be full of justice in the new democratic society of Iraq. There is no way around that truism...NO way.

I laughed for the first half, then I just felt depressed. I have to believe that some people knew the answers or had some clue and were edited out. It is just too scary.
