Default Care to get blown up in the comfort of your own home?

I know this is off topic but I have just read AGAIN how my country (USA) have yesterday blown away 14 "militants" in Pakistan with one of these wonderful new drone missiles that lets our brave service men target and destroy (blow into small pieces of bleeding meat) unknown people in far away places from the comfort of their desks in Washington and then go home at the usual time and sit down with their wives and kids to enjoy a well earned evening meal.

Now it's probably just me but if I understand this correctly America hasn't declared war on Pakistan has it?

These "militants" have not been tried in a court of law and sentenced to death have they?

Murder of foreign citizens has not been made legal in the US has it?

    Are you comfortable with this?

If I never post again here then you can draw the conclusion that I have been deemed to be a "militant" and was dangerously sitting in my home when targeted

I suppose if the're 'nipping in and out' of Afganistan causing bother they are fair game.
However I do see you moral point.
But I am concerned you cant be affective in winning a war nowadays by being moralistic.
The ememy don't seem to be playing by 'the rules'.
I know this isn't the point you are making but,
Dont get me wrong I wish there never was war. I think trying to sanitze war by keeping to the rules makes it easier to condone going to war in the first place.
I say keep it dirty and ban the press. Maybe people wouldn't be so keen to do it again.

Here is an article on the recent trial of activists, protesting drone assassinations, which took place couple of weeks ago, in Las Vegas, Nevada,, USA.

How the hell do we know where or if they've been nipping in and out of anywhere? On US say so? Oh that's right the American government never lies, sorry I forgot that.

However I do see you moral point.

It's not a moral point it's a point of pure self preservation - how do any of us know that tomorrow some asshole in the Pentagon won't decide that we are "militants" or sympathizers - or worse yet, if our next door neighbor is one and we just get blown to feck by accident.

But I am concerned you cant be affective in winning a war nowadays by being moralistic.

The one truth in war is that the enemy NEVER plays by the rules, EVER.

Thanks Tintin for the link - that's always been one of the few things to give me any hope that the same country that builds and uses drones has people with the guts and conviction to try and stop it too - hope they succeed.

Interesting topic fellas. In Oz at the moment, lots of media reports about ozzie troops not getting enough support and equipment. Soldiers secretly emailing the press etc. Most Australians dont support the war, but the government is sucking yankee arse as usual.
IMHO, it will end like Vietnam, and we will end up trying to exracate ourselves from the fight.
Ruski were there for 10 years and had to run in the finish

I quite see your point about septics being happy to blow things up while shouting " yeh dude", but in the case of Pakistan I can almost see their misguided point.

Having watched my own country slowly be shitted up by some of these guys, do I shed many tears? Nah, the US and Pakistan are culturally polar opposites, but in terms of many things are so close to Pakistan. They deserve each other.

Funnel shaped anus of the world that place is.

Show me something to make me feel all warm (and not acid in the face) and I may just think about judging pakistan as something slightly better than hell on earth.

Actually my point wasn't really about Pakistan although I tend to agree with your appraisal of the situation there.

More to the point I'm concerned with some asshole sitting at a desk in the Pentagon and blowing up anybody they tell him to and taking most of the neighborhood with him, hell even if they "just" get the guy they're after alone - it just aint right to kill people (I feel related to the species) full stop.

And it sure aint right to do it without recourse to a court of law or declaration of war.

The Nuremberg trials pretty well cleared that up I thought?

Hmmm wonder why the US doesn't belong to the International Court of the Hague?

Pakistan is a shit hole because they are still back in the middle ages. Instead of dropping bombs on them how about some books and a few good teachers (with some marines to protect em)?

The books they will burn, the teachers they will hack to death.

Yes, back in the middle ages, just leave them alone, and more importantly...don't let them out.
