I'm So Incensed!

Postby milan on Mon Jun 09, 2008 9:30 am

On the fact that Malaysia has claimed that Indonesia's culture is theirs and have patented on several of our patrimony on this.

And seems like Indonesia just takes it lying down, for heaven's sake!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AwHPqT2 ... re=related

Our songs: Rasa Sayang is originally from Ambon!. Then they claimed all these other songs such as: Jali-Jali, etc. Malaysia has patented them all.
Our Batiks from Java.
Our Rendang/Food in general.

Well, you see for yourself on the above link.

Something has to be done!! Help!

Eri gets really pissed about this as well. While not offering any excuses to some of the most outrageous claims made by Malaysia, at the same time we have to recognize that Malaysia shares a lot of common history and culture with Indonesia, starting in the 10th century with the Sriwijaya Kingdom and right up to the English colonialization.

Malaysia and Indonesia: We have a lot of common history, same origin for example our language. Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Malaysia have same root. It´s not really important to "stamp" patrimony with patent. I think it´s very important to care and cultivate ... what we have. Example: Batik ... have their history and someone, that learn more and more about batik, will be find that the word "batik" come from Oldjava´s word "mbatik" ... to make dot. Why must i carry about patent?

I'd like to see Spain promoting their country for tourism with a song: "Volare" or "A Chi".
How will Italy react to that. Or Germany and Holland. They too have similar history and language, yet, each country has its own individual recognition.
Besides, I lived in Kualalumpur and whilst there, a few of them tried to provoke by saying that we Indonesians copy their words. Not only that, but for them, Indonesians are those who work as maids and everyday there's always something in the papers about them being abused or cheating their employers.
However, I did appreciate their food at last, not all but some because evidently it is the Indonesians who improved their culinary know-how, given that many years ago, the food was awful. Lived there in 2000 for almost a year, it really has improved except that restaurant called "Madame Kwan" (forgor exactly the name). Nice ambience, etc., but nooo taste!!

Probably just Malaysia's way of getting even for the illegal Sumatra burn-offs that take place every so often and leave Malaysia layered in thick smoke from North to South :-)

Well, Balilife, you have a slight point there but Malaysia copied everything from everywhere before Sumatra sent its smoke to the country. Come to think of it, how easy that would be to bring Malaysia down to its knees, wouldn't it?

But as you can see on the link below that at least Indonesia government already starts doing something about it. Unfortunately, the government perhaps do not have the fund to pursue it full-heartedly, added by the peacefulness of Indonesian temperates as people as a whole.
It's the Malaysians who are the hostile people in my opinion. Yes, in every nation there are always the bad apples, but the Malaysians are prevalent on this.

This is the "reog ponorogo" dance which is originated and traditionally Javanese. Also that Malaysia wants to steal!
