Documentary Bali Terroist Attacks.

Postby shadrock on Wed Jun 18, 2008 10:33 pm

I am in the research stages of a documentary and the working title of the piece is "Love Hate Love." It will be 3 or 4 vignettes woven together into a feature length documentary. The stories will all center around a person who lost a loved one because of a terrorist attack and since that day has committed to making the world a better place, letting love shine through the hatred of the attacks.
This quote really sums up what we are wanting to convey: "There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love the only survival, the only meaning." Thorton Wilder
If you or someone you know in Bali would be interested in participating in this project please let me know.
Thank you.

Hmm...highly interesting! I wonder who could that be. I suggest you read some of the last strings here and you'll see if there's a lot of love going on in here in order to pick the one who could play that role on your documentary.
I wish you luck just the same.

Shadrock, welcome to the forum and good luck with your documentary.

You mention 3 or 4 vignettes, and each of these will be about a person who lost a loved one in the first Bali bomb. Just thinking “out load”, does that mean you would like a person from each of the four groups most effected by the bombing, viz., western (particularly Australian), Balinese, and other than Balinese Indonesian, and other Asian? Or in other words, are you looking for cultural and religious diversity within your three or four vignettes?

Also, are you looking for diversity within the relationship (or meaning of the loved one) among this group as in the loss of a spouse, son or daughter, father or mother, sister or brother, etc?

As a suggestion, especially considering the very sensitive nature of your project, you might consider telling us more about yourself, where you are, what other work in this field you have accomplished, and so on.

Thanks for responding. We are looking for any relationship among victims and survivors. The scope of the film will represent all the various attacks in the last 7 years, covering NYC, Bali, Madrid and London. At this time we are trying to get names of people, contact information and a brief idea of what their individual story is about.

Thanks for your reply, and additional clarification. Without knowing more about you...which you can send via PM, I am reluctant to offer any information I have about any of the Balinese I know who lost loved ones in the Bali bombing. I can understand your reluctance to make this information public on this forum, but I’m sure you can see things from my perspective as well. Cheers and good luck with your project.

Hi Shadrock,

I'd recommend you try and get in contact with a bloke by the name of Dallas Finn, the co-ordinator of the Bali Peace Park project which is planned to be built on the site of the old Sari Club (sob, I miss the old Sari Club  ). He wasn't directly involved with the bombing events but has turned this project into his crusade and would love some extra exposure, I'm sure, plus would probably be able to point you in the right direction for people (most likely westerners) directly involved. He's a nice enough fella, I know him fairly well and have shared a few beers with him over time. Wouldn't have a clue about his contact details, but if you have some more info about yourself, I'm sure I'll be seeing him in about 10ish days time. If you had more info about yourself and your project I might be able to forward it on to him.

As for locals, my wife may have friends (or at least know people who know people  ) who were involved, Javanese locals at least. I've never really asked her about those events and if she knew of anyone involved, she was pembantu'ing in Jimbaran at the time but the grapevine runs hot in Indo. Like Roy has stated, they may wish to keep their privacy however.

Good luck with it.

Will all the profits be returned to families of the victims or NPO's representing world peace?

Makes sense that if one were to produce a documentary on these tragic events, then sell it to networks, that the profits be returned to the victims..

As for love being a bridge.. Hmm, yes, that sounds nice.. "Love is a bridge" will magically destroy all of man's greed will it?

I highly suggest you contact a very close friend of mine here in Ubud, Joe Yaggi of Jungle Run Productions:

Your project sounds like a perfect match for him, and I have little doubt he would happy to assist you, or work with you. You can say that I referred you.

Cheers and good luck.

Thank you all for your suggestions and contacts. I have e-mailed everyone and am awaiting responses. Please continue to let me know of other potental participants.

First and foremost we are looking for the story and we are trying to do so by 7/5 because we are applying for a grant with the deadline a few days later. However, if we don't get the stories in time we will still pursue it! In terms of what we're looking for, English speaker would be good but not essential. Since the film will span at least 4 countries we know we will need some subtitles. It's all about the best story. We don't care if they are male or female or easterner or westerner.

Sorry Gina,

But I guess it’s time to come clear now and also to wash some dirty clothes!

Gloria never worked one single day in Shangla hospital, it’s just another lie and already proved, I think you have good intentions, but please get your facts right and probably a good idea is to talk with some Balinese or expats living in Lovina area!

Do us all a favour, who will know it better, please stop advertising Gloria Goodwin, you need some facts – some hundreds of emails from people who supported her, worked with her?
I have some hundred saved on my old laptop, and btw this forum was once created for Gloria, then Bert was pissed enough!

Best regards
Thorsten

Thanks for everyone's help. We are still waiting for that compelling story where someone who was a vicitm of either Bali bombing was able to over come so much and find love or demonstrate love for their fellow human.

Good grief! Do I hear violins?

Are you working on a documentary, or yet another Jakarta produced cinetron? Sorry about that, but if your wife was ever addicted to Cinta Bunga like mine was, you'd have a good laugh.

Any luck with Joe Yaggi?

Thorsten, I agree with Bert, and I have to ask if you’ve ever met Gloria? My question is of course rhetorical, and I guess I am also somewhat surprised that you would judge her on the words of others. Then again, maybe you have met her...I don’t know.

I’ve known Gloria for many years, and yes, I’ll be among the first to admit she, and her operation, is disorganized...to put things charitably.

In spite of the “dysfunction” that has been part and parcel of Gloria and her operation, what Bert says is totally spot on...“she is still helping people.”
