    Default Unusual Request

(2/5/2011) Beritabali.com reports that the Provincial Broadcasting Commission (KPI-Bali) has told all the broadcast facilities in Bali to shit down for 24 hours from sunrise on 05 March 2011 – Bali's official day of silence Nyepi.
    -------------------
It would be interesting to know how they are going to enforce that directive. Seems like they may be taking the day of silence to extremes.

I think that the day of silence is a good thing. We are living in Bali as expats - we need to respect the culture and ethnics of the Balinese people. If they want to shut down the radios for a day, so be it! Just like they do the airports.

I of all people should be most concerned about this "day of silence" as it falls on my birthday, but you know what? I'm cool with it.

Read the first post again. I think the point is they have asked them to 'shit down' not 'shut down'.

Exactly. I love Nyepi, the silence, the ease of the day, and also the deeper concept. But I'm left wondering whether the radio stations are being asked to change the direction to "down" or whether they're being directed not to "broadcast". Either way I'd give them full marks for their efforts to ensure that Nyepi is a deeply moving day for all.

I think Medewi is the south coast of West Bali in Jembrana Regency - not the north as in Buleleng Regency.

but then again...what kinda party would one have in an islamic village...no booze, no girls, no nothing probably...

as for the silence and lights out, sure no problem here.. for inside the house I always receive from the pecalang some sort of license/Izin wich allows me to have lights on and tv etcetc...
ofcourse the outside lighting is off.
92.1 or was it 102.1 (I forgot) in Singaraja will be broadcasting as ussual.
don't read between the lines..i think the words are clear enough...:)

My apologies, thanks for correcting me. I have always been told it was north but have yet to discover this little place. March 3 it is!!

Rumour amongst my few groups is that it turns into a beach party that ends up with aot of alchol so maybe its not too strict??

I shall let you all know, ts going to be hell or awesome.

Hey has anyone had the problem of friendship groups not mixing well??? Each time Ive come ve met someone new through a friend or just some one new entirely... None of them with miix amongst each other?? theres this underlying tension.. This has mostly been with the balinese though

hahaha...yeah heaven or hell, please don't forget to let me/us know how it was, maybe worth checking out in the future f you're experience was a good one

about the tension thingy...Balinese are very protective of their foreign guest. I had that same experience with balinese people...after a while I asked a friend (balinese but wealthy) what that is all about...he said that some are just very protective, not protective in regards to your safety,
no... protective in regards to the possibility they are getting something from you and don't want to share your genorosity with another...Sucks but hey it's a Balinese who told me, I am just relaying his words.

Anyways...I wish you alot of fun at the islam beach party , just joking.
