The Indonesian AIDS Prevention Commission (KPA) said last year that the number of known HIV/AIDS cases on Bali was soaring, with one in four prostitutes reported to be HIV-positive and the number of infections jumping almost 19 percent from the year before.
The KPA at that time had recorded 5,222 cases of HIV or AIDS in Bali, with nearly half in the capital Denpasar.

A friend of mine is running a small private clinic in northern Bali. Free of charge for patients in the local community. She has told me that the HIV cases up in Northern Bali is becoming more and more frequent. Balinese men are notorious visitors to "the ladys of the night" and contract HIV. Their wifes and further along the babys get the virus as well. If the known figure is 5.222 verified cases the real figure will be 10 folded. That's the way it has shown in Africa and other Asian countries.
Sweden, where I come from has had an increase 2011 in newly dicovered HIV cases. Most cases from man/man sex and tourists visiting prostitutes in Thailand (main tourist destination for Swedes).
One of the young guys who was working for my father-in-law has just found out his mother has Aids, she has also been diagnosed with Tuberculosis. I feel sorry for the kid, only 18, real hard worker, friendly, always smiling, he had to stop working just to look after her.
