Default Australia government to build peace museum on Bali bomb site

The Australian government is seeking support from Indonesia's local government in Bali for building a "peace museum" that commemorates Australians perished in 2002 Bali bombing, local media reported on Friday.

Speaking on the sidelines of his meeting with regent of Bali's Badung regency Anak Agung Gde Agung on Friday, Australian ambassador to Indonesia, Greg Moriarty, said that the museum would be constructed near the ground zero in Badung regency where the bomb blast killed 202 people in Bali in mid-August 2002.

Most of the casualties were Australians, the Antara news service reported.

Badung regent Anak Agung said that his administration would fully support the museum construction plans after learning that the Australia government has settled the acquisition process on the site where the project would be carried out.

Indonesia's leisure island of Bali saw strings of deadly terrorist attacks perpetrated by Indonesian terrorist cells that killed hundreds of westerners and local people. The security in the Indonesia's prominent island has been in perfect condition after Indonesian apparatus arrested the terrorists. Some of them were executed after undergone trials in public courts.

I believe 88 Australians died, and that the total number of deaths was 202.

As this is not a majority, the word "most" seems inappropriate.

yeah maybe, I have no idea how many died and what kinda passport those people were carrying...
but I like math so here goes, if from the remaining 114 dead (202 - 88) there was not a nationality with a higher number of deaths doesn't that make the statement correct? like for example amongst the dead there were 57 balinese and 57 chinese and 88 australians, then the majority/most people who died would be australian...

just wondering why that 'peace-museum' is neccesarry, isn't that memorial enough?
don't read between the lines..i think the words are clear enough...:)

From memory Gil, the second highest death toll was from Indonesia itself. Regardless, the whole tragedy was very sad. Also set Bali back 10 years IMHO.
I agree, the peace park is not necessary, the memorial is suffice to pay ones respects.

Yes, more Aussies died than any other nationality, but Aussies were not a majority of the dead. Some of the figures were Australia: 88, Indonesia, 38, United Kingdom 24, United States: 7, then about 19 more countries and then 2 unknown.

So you like the math, I am interested also in the words - in this case most, the Macquarie Dictionary has:

adjective 1. in the greatest quantity, amount, measure, degree, or number: the most votes.
    2. in the majority of instances: most exercise is beneficial.
    3. greatest, as in size or extent: the most part.
–pronoun 4. the greatest quantity, amount, or degree: Jane did the most to help; $100 is the most I can afford.
    5. the greatest part of something specified: most of the work is finished.
    6. (construed as plural) the greatest number of a class specified, or the majority of persons: most of us agreed.
–adverb 7. in or to the greatest extent or degree: most rapid; most wisely.
    8. Chiefly US almost or nearly: most everything; most anywhere.
–phrase 9. the most (or mostest), Colloquial the best of a group or kind. [Middle English most(e), Old English māst]
So meaning 1 lends support to your interpretation, while meaning 2 lends support to my approach. Interesting.

    Default Bali Bombings 2002

Just a small comment the bomb in 2002 was in October not August that's worth remembering. The amount of Indonesians who were killed would not be known accurately. The only time people were missed in those days when they failed to show up in the village at Lebaran
