You must be desperate to drink that stuff. Now Bols on the other hand is a fine drink.

Problem is that the import duties on liquor and beer is officially 350% duty (has been for years), that is why the smuggling was going on for so long (decades) and then they govt. decided to stop it late last year. Now we have the problems we do.
As for food they decided to final enforce the existing regulations for importing food that all food has to pass tests and get official approval to import each and every food product, too make sure those food exporters are not trying to poison the good people of Indonesia.
The imported liquor shortage in Bali seems to be more or less over. However, the current prices are still sky-high, with no end in sight.
IDR 72,000 for a small Irish coffee, (albeit a very nice one), is exorbitant. Prices for spirits here are now even more than in the countries they're exported from! Cafes and bars that don't resort to substituting local rot-gut have no choice but to pass the costs on to the consumers.
Sad but true.

(Just an aside to this forum's Admin. Is there any way to get a few more smilies to choose from?)

I'm not sure but that JC fellow would probably prefer the real thing, not an avatar....an Irish coffee in his mouth JC...
Are there people who drink avatars? Is that some kind of Russian vodka? Or something to make tea in?
:D
Hey - at these prices, and with my habit I may have to fly out every week (or even few days) to grab a liter of something nice to mix. Has anyone ever made sangria with Bali Rose? If so, what was it like and any recipe ideas? Coming from NZ I am sitting here typing while downing a bottle of great Marlhorough Sac Blanc for 60,000 rupiah equiv. I love Bali but it's a bit like having to go cold turkey.
Prices have gone up again since then. The last bottle of Hatten I bought cost Rp97,000 in my local supermarket.
