Default Some Photos from a Great Suckling Pig (Babi) Celebration

Was invited to take part in a offering/celebration and had the trusty camera so I hope you like the pictures.

A short background explanation: 3 years ago Nyoman's life wasn't going like everyone thought it would or should do (not married, no job, no money, etc.) so he was summoned, with his parents (he was 29 then!) for a consultation with the priest who advised him and them what to do to rectify it all and make a success out of his life.

So he faithfully followed the advice and now his efforts have been crowned with success and the future looks bright. To thank the gods Nyoman and his family have sponsored this "small" celebration to show them and the neighbours and family that it's all worked out great. No wife or kids yet but a great job.

What was that great job - waiter on a cruise line. When he joins his ship he will be gone from his beloved Bali and family for 7/8 months at a time!!

Hope you enjoy the pics, just add a http:// in front of the addy below.

Had a look at your Bali Ruhpot pics too.

You should be careful - your tag on the photo of the three young girls

"guess which one has a european father? Yum Yum" Might be taken the wrong (or right) way?

It's a completely fictitious place only to be reached by staring for hours into a bottle of Bintang.

Actually in Candi Dasa  but the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

If I was to honest (which I try to be always) the pig didn't taste all that good. I don't just mean this pig but really all the suckling that I've tried in Bali has been a bit of a let-down (including the world renown IBU whatever in Ubud).

I would prefer it if they would season the pig first and then cook it rather than keep it "pure" and then add chilis to the mix later - which, in my humble opinion, destroys whatever taste the pig did have, replacing it with the flavors of chili, ginger, coconut, etc.

Sorry in advance to all you Babi specialists out there :(

Not a specialist (figured that would be flogging the proverbial dead horse). Just stumbled into a warung in Sanur and thought to ourselves "hm, that looks interesting, can we try some of that?" and BAM! (apologies to Emil and his ilk) we loved it. We savored it for the textures as much as for the spices I think.

Anyhoo, would be grateful to be in a position--or location!-- to quibble about it
