I love those kebabs.. It's almost bringing a tear to my eye.. Does anybody know of Georges Kebabs just around the corner from the Hippy Club in Leederville? We used to chow down his donairs every wednesday night after partying at the hippy.. Ahh those good ol days.. Of course, married with 2 kids now living in ice cold vancouver.. Those Wednesday nights at Steve's and the hippy club seem a millenium away :( time is cruel, but also kind :)

I must admit that I sometimes heavily crave for Fast Food. Miss BurgerKing, Subway or Taco Bell as well, although more rarely than a few months back.

My last favorite was Carl's Jr., after they opened a few years back in Singapore. Ahhhhhhh - the Sourdough Bacon Cheeseburger, the Santa Fe Burger or the Veggie Burger (comes without Bun, just in Salad Leaves)....make my mouth still watery, when I just think about it.

A Sushi Franchise like Gengki's would be nice too.

And Domino's Pizza! So far they are in Asia only in Malaysia, if I'm not wrong.

What happened to the Wendy's which seem to have existed here in Bali? You can still find some references when you google for it, unfortunately the places are all closed down years ago....

And if I only could get real good Marzipan here, without paying an Arm and a Leg in Bali Deli (100g low-quality marzipan chocolate for anything above Rp.30.000) Arglglglglgl!

About time my visitors from Germany come again....

;-)
Cheers,

Chris

I am with you Matsaleh
you posted:"I can only hope that this type of eatery NEVER opens up in Kuta, or anywhere else in Bali, for that matter. With any luck, the McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut and all the other fast-food outlets could disappear as well. I hate the thought that Bali will become so western and commercialised that it's just an extension of USA or OZ! ".........................

Fish +chips,Mac Donalds,Donuts,Burker King,Subway, pizza, western food!!!!! Lets not bring any of these to Bali Please.
I was born in Indonesia grew up there as a toddler, moved to the netherlands still ate Indonesian food everyday,That Dutch food is HORRID!,now in the USA I feel depleted(back to Bali as often As i can),no where to find Indonesian food unless Its made from scratch, cannot find the pure ingr. My love of eating is "0",I crave My Indonesian food! One of The best things about Bali Is the Food,Indonesian Food! Perhaps If you were not born there youcrave western food,I dont. Its ridiculous to come to bali and eat American food(western food).Suck in the entire beautifull culture of bali, food and all. Back to tasteless western food when you return and depart bali.Has anyone seen the typical bodyshape of a bloated tourist lately? Is this from their healthy eating habits of wonderous western food? You dont see many bloated obese Indonesians..................do you?Something to think about.Perhaps we can learn something from the Indonesian way of eating,or at least try and learn.

Some of your points are point less.
I live in a Western country but I would not say to a foreigner, "Don't eat your crap when you visit, eat Australian food." I spend a good deal of time in Bali and S.E. Asia each year and enjoy all varieties of food including some fantastic western food in Bali.
Nothing tasteless about it either.
I'm not bloated.
I too love Balinese food but it 's wonderful that there is now choice available.
AND I am not talking about McDonalds although I'm sure there are plenty of locals who like the opportunity to eat a bigmac.
Don't be so pretentious, food in all it's varieties is a wonderful thing.

Yes agreed, what I posted was merely MY PERSONAL oppinion.Eat what you like.
The question was posted for all to reply to....................................I prefer Indonesian food .

What does the word "Pretentious " have to do with me liking Indonesian food? Did I miss something?

The only thing I would like to find food wise is Bisto. I love a roast dinner from time to time and my home made gravy just isnt the same as good old Bisto!

I can't find any Nestles malted milk powder.

It's just a whim, I know, but the longer one lives here, the more strange cravings crop up from time to time.

I have been coming to Indonesia since 1996, and spend several months each year in Bali. To date I haven't been able to locate a consistently good Chinese restaurant. If you ever visit Solo in Central Java try either Boga or Diamond restaurants, and tell me if there is anything comparable in Bali. My partner is ethnic Chinese and I am a bule, and although our preferences differ; on this we both agree.
Now finding a quality chef is the trick. Good luck!

Thankyou, Jimbo, for the suggestion of Milo.

Two things:
Milo is readily available in supermarkets here.
Milo and "straight" malted milk powder are different (added flavours, etc).

I'll give you an example. If you've ever had a malted milkshake, have you ever seen somebody using Milo in it?

Try Feyloon in Renon. Its very good and one of our good friends, who owns a highly rated Chinese Eatery in Auckland and another in Melbourne swears by it.

One to avoid, the Bali Hyatt one in Sanur..it's a shocker, bad food, no Chinese chef, terrible service, pricey

Thank you, charlie, in advance.
Send me a PM immediately.
And what about a "milkshake" for Jimbo? (Maybe he's milk intolerant.)
A chocolate malted with 14 tuppeny ice-creams from the Greek milkbar down the road. (Probably before your time.)

Not for me thanks I have enough problems with my weight as it is :D I remember milk bars from the 50's and very early 60's but they were full of Teddy Boys then (Remember them?) and I was not into that era very much.
