Hi folks,
I just had a short story published in an online writers magazine called Hackwriters (you can find it at hackwriters.com). I wrote the story about 10 years ago shortly after the birth of my second daughter. It concerns some of the issues that we discuss here like the expatriate experience, as well as looking at how a child of an Indonesian parent and an expat might view her life. The story has generated a flow of traffic to my cyberbali site, but no responses unlike the articles that I've written for the travelzine escapeartist. Any comments from folks here would be appreciated. The story is an offshot of a novel by the same title.
Regards,
Bruce

Loved that story Bruce, below is a reaction of my mixed child when I told her I wanted to become an Indonesian citizen.
The confusions of a mixed child: a few years ago when I told my children about my wish to become an Indonesian citizen, my then 4 year old started to cry. We couldn’t understand why until she explained that she didn’t want her Bapak to be Indonesian because she didn’t want my skin to change colour.
Well I’m Indonesian now and my skin colour and features seem to be remaining the same and I’m still called a tourist.
Thanks for the comment Richard. I love the reaction from your daughter. It really is fascinating to see how our children process the events that make up life for mixed marriages.
A beautifully written story, Bruce and a wonderful insight into the feelings of a child of mixed parentage. More please?
PS. It's nice to see you now and put a face to the name. :)
How do you put a face to the name? Sorry I'm not too good at computers, they didn't have them when i was at school.
With a little assistance from Bert, that's how! :wink:Originally Posted by Richard Kalibukbuk
Thanks Matsaleh.
I've been trying to figure out the last two chapters of the novel for ten years now Bert. I think I've finally got it figured out. Just have to do the writing now.
