I have been going through your site for the past few days and have found it
quite informative.
I used to live in Indonesia and Malaysia as a teenager because my father had
contracts with the big cigerrette companies, Phillip Morris and Sampoerna. I
can speak bahasa Indonesia quite well and my skills have only gotten better over
the last 5 years because my wife is from Jakarta. We have a two year old boy
called Jayden and we are teaching him Indonesian first because he will obviously
be learning english at Kindergarten and School.
We have been discussing the possibility of relocating back to indonesia
for about 12 months now. What would you advise us as what best to do? Pack up
and just go? Save up some money first? Have a job over there before i arrive
or start looking once i get there? Is starting a business a feasible option?
How much savings would you advise us having before going? Cost for Australian
International School in Bali?
And the obvious questions about security, terrorism etc? Is it a safe place
at the moment?
Sorry to bombard you, but it is a big move that we dont want to regret if we
go ahead with something....
Bali is safe. Like a client from the Netherlands said "Bali is safer then Rotterdam".
I cannot say if you should go or not, you have to make this decision yourself....
Jobs are not easy to find, creating one yourself is an option, if you have the money and skills to take the time to build a business...
You would be able to rent a decent home for 20-40 million a year, and 20-30 million a month to survive, all very rough figures. So about 20.000 USD would get you through your first year, if you don't do anything funny...
I don't know about the costs for the International School however...
Appreciate the help bert thankyou.
My wife and i would appreciate any other advice or information so please post me a reply.
cheers all
terima kasih

Thanks to everyone who has replied all your comments have been duely noted and taken on board and put on the decision making clip board.
Bert,
Living in South East Asia as a teenager was fantastic. What an insight into the world. I learned languages cultures and a lifestyle that a Western teenager could only dream about.
Thats why, since returning and living in Australia for the last 7 years, i have had such a desire to return to south east asia. I met my wife in Melbourne in 1998 and we have been together ever since. We return to Jakarta every 1-2 years to visit the in laws.
Bali though would be the place for us to live as it is less polluted and has more of a lifestyle that appeals to us.
Thanks.
Keep the advice rolling in guys its been helpful.
Ps. Im surprised i havent heard from RON in UBUD
You probably won't hear from him at all if you continue to call him RON! :POriginally Posted by nickfisher
Could RON tell me how much is a pleasant 3bdr house for rent for 3 months in or near Ubud. No spa, no luxury needed, only aircons in the bdrs (is it really needed in Ubud ?? I remember it as a fresh place..), swimming-pool not needed if using others is doingable. Quiet place is important, with some garden around, no neighbours very good!
Thank you Ron.
A frechman who lived 4y on the Djatiluhur Dam site between 3 and 7. Forever "Indonesia stamped"...
Who is this "Ron" anyway? :D
Sorry........ Roy from Ubud!
Many apologies to you mate!
The late nights infront of the computer did it to me. If you could put your two cents in in regards to my young family shifting to bali i would appreciate it.
Cheers
