    Default Travel vaccinations

Sitting up in the middle of the night, having been sick for the last week... I realised it must be 5 years or so now since I got any of my travel vaccination boosters. The night time is great for paranoia

Has anyone had them done over here? If so where and at what sort of cost?

    Thanks

Sorry that you've been sick for several days. How serious is your sickness?

I wish I had a good answer for you. I don't know how the quality of vaccines are in Bali or other parts of Asia. Hopefully others will have better information. For me, I've sort of given up on vaccinations.

I used to get them before going overseas back in the early 1980s here in the US but I no longer trust any vaccination from the US government or US medical system, period (in fact, there is a lot I don't trust from said sources), You just don't ever really know what you're getting anymore. That's just my own opinion and I know many people who still get jabbed regularly, whether they really need it or not. It makes them feel better mentally.

I have travelled extensively in India and SE Asia over the last twenty-five years and have never had any problems. Maybe I've just been lucky. Now, if I was going into the deep jungles of Irian Jaya or some far-off reaches of darkest Africa for lengthy periods of time, I'm sure I would reconsider my options, but for most of Asia I don't think I will ever get poked again.

I don't have jabs any more either.I had a whole armful in 1978 complete with a little yellow booklet that was stamped every time I updated.
My last jab was in Calcutta where we were walked , trammed, and bused for half an hour with some Indian clerk who led us up some piss smelly stairs to a very dirty little room filled with 10 other Indians. A man entered in a grey white coat, with a needle in his hand, went , jab jab jab jab jab all the way down the line of us before we could blink, and that was our shots. Scary stuff, we kept waiting for our arm to fall off, go black or fall in a heap with malaria or leprosy. :( :(
If I was living or staying in an area other than South Bali I may reconsider.

I’m sort of with Richard and Bolli on this one Mimpi. My doc at Bumrungrad in Bangkok told me that a Hep B vaccine makes sense, but still I haven’t had one since I first moved here. That said, I should have a Hep B vaccine, as we are all at risk for that, and it nothing to fool around with as you surely know.

If you stop by the new international wing at RS Sanglah in Denpasar, you can get the vaccines you want, and since you are on KITAS, the fee will be same as charged to the locals...but I don’t know what those fees are.

Bali is said to be 100% malaria free, but what about in Kuta Lombok? Is malaria an issue to have concern?

You’ve been around for a long time...a true pioneer I would say in so far as Kuta Lombok is concerned, so your body must have built up a lot of natural immunities by now.

Speaking of Kuta Lombok, which I personally think is awesomely beautiful, what’s the latest with the new road saga? When I first read your initial post about that I was shocked. Seriously, I wish you and your hubby all the best with that horror. You guys built a wonderful place there and I think you were brilliant with your foresight of what will eventually happen in Kuta Lombok.

Why would you, Mister-know-it-all, get a Hep. B vaccine, unless, when in Bangkok…? :? Hep. B is for people in contact with infectious blood, semen, and other body fluids from having sex with an infected person, sharing contaminated needles to inject drugs, or from an infected mother to her newborn. You must have meant Hep A, that one catches from contaminated food and drinks with fecal matter.
    Keep on smiling.

Jesus Tintin, I don't mind you and Roy , or any one , having great heated debates, it's quite entertaining, but just to leap on a post to call Roy names is plain childish.

Ma’af! Sorry, you are right! I should have known that only the French would know the difference, as after all, it was the French who invented the “French Glove”, aka, condom.

I immediately differ to your vastly superior knowledge on the subject of body excretions, etc.

No worries Bolli. As you say, it’s all just entertainment. One day I envision Daniel and I having a “sit down” at Nuri’s. It will be high drama, like a scene from the popular US TV series, The Sopranos. That will also be entertaining. 8)

True, but this kid live here, and other one doesn't!

Seriously, these are the Spice Islands after all, so why not some "bumbu" now and then to keep things interesting?

I expect that when I finally meet Daniel in person, I will like him.
