Bali bomber warns more al-Qaida attacks 'very likely' if he is executed
Jakarta
An Islamic militant awaiting execution in Indonesia for carrying out the
2002 Bali bombings has warned that al-Qaida would be "very likely" to launch
revenge attacks if authorities kill him, a magazine reported.
Imam Samudra and two other Indonesian militants were sentenced to death in
2003for their roles in the suicide attacks that killed 202 people, mostly
foreign tourists, at two nightclubs on the resort island of Bali.
The three - who have admitted to planning and taking part in the strikes -
are awaiting a final legal appeal to their sentences.
Samudra was interviewed in prison by a local hard-line Islamist magazine,
Jihadmagz.
Asked whether al-Qaida would send operatives to Indonesia to launch attacks
if he were executed, he said, "That is very likely. God willing, hopefully
that will happen. Everyone knows that the armies of Allah are (everywhere)."
The magazine, which has a circulation of 10,000, hit newsstands in Indonesia
last week.
The Bali attacks were carried out by members and associates of Jemaah
Islamiyah, a Southeast Asian militant group whose leaders came under the
influence of al-Qaida in the late 1990s when they trained ad fought in
Afghanistan.
Since then, militants have launched three more attacks on Western targets in
Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation. The latest attack,
against restaurants in Bali in 2005, killed 12.
Indonesia does not announce executions in advance, but authorities have
reportedly been preparing to carry out the punishment if the three men's
appeal at the Supreme Court fails. Officials there have not said when they
will rule on the appeal, which is known as a judicial review.
He holds himself in too high of a regard. If he thinks Al-Qaida really cares about him or his cause enough to carry out a revenge act.
That's not to say they wouldn't carry out an attack, but to suggest such would be in response to his execution is almost laughable. He's a plebiscite from a group that isn't even affiliated with Al-Qaida in an organized manner - sure they may share an agenda.
Many Middle East muslims (especially more hardline ones) look at Indonesian muslims as a lower class of muslims. In fact, there's little respect coming down this way from up that way in general, regardless of the fact that Indonesia has more muslims than any other country.
I think this guy's 'dreamin'..

Poor us, Indonesians! Many Middle East muslims (especially more hardline ones) look at Indonesian muslims as a lower class of muslims
In reality, who cares if one group of idiots looks up to, or down upon another.
It all supports my belief that religion is a stain upon the human civilization.
"Imagine... And no religion too.."
Ct
I was just being sarcastic.
Imagine. In the end it's only a song. It's sad as the cruelty in human race is so intensified that things that were not heard of before exist today and people just go about their business as usual.
Mmm, I think this is incorrect.. If you look at history, there's never been a period free of such behaviour - the only things that change are:the cruelty in human race is so intensified that things that were not heard of before exist today and...
A) who is doing those acts
B) to whom those acts are being done
C) how are the acts carried out
D) how politically accepted they are considered at the time
Humans have always been sadistic - greed is in us. Society is man's logical way of trying to contain such so that one man's greed doesn't hinder the freedom and rights of another's. But it doesn't always work, and religion is an effective means of rallying people to support the quests for power and control, under the pretense of faith.
Ct
Agree. As my reference was not only in the realm of religion but in our life in general such as cruelty towards the children since 1990's as I see it.A) who is doing those acts
B) to whom those acts are being done
C) how are the acts carried out
D) how politically accepted they are considered at the time
In the past, you know your enemy, but today non as such exist that even for example a journalist can be kidnapped and cut his head off or mutilated: Daniel Pearl.
The enemy can be that sheep/wolf behind the lamb( is that the right expression?).
And back to religion. Yes, some religions do what you stated but not all.
I think, the wolf dressed up as lamb..
something like that :(
What is this guy worried about (the condemned Bali bomber)? Isn't he off to matyrdom, the 70 virgins and all that?
It's a helluva incentive for the likes of guys who fly planes into buildings or those who wander into marketplaces in Baghdad strapped with explosives yet this guy is screaming bloody murder about heading there himself.
And this isn't an anti-muslim tirade, its just always seemed a bit hyprocritical to me. Like these people flogging timeshares to anyone they can hook - yet wouldn't own one themselves...
Life's a beach......
Amen to that!
