Those of us expats actually living in Bali would have noticed the "panic" at the petrol pumps today. I have to admit that it's caught me by surprise, too.
I thought there were rumblings to dramatically increase the price of the "good" stuff, (Pertamax), but didn't know that "Premium" would be affected as well. Still don't, exactly.
Driving into Denpasar this morning was a nightmare of traffic jams, (more than usual). I soon saw the reason - huge lines of traffic trying to get into lines for petrol. The funny thing is that I haven't been able to find any concrete news about this on the various Indonesian news websites. I would have thought it'd be way up there. Not the case, at least not so far.
Anybody know what's going on?
My initial two theories were that there's a problem with the petrol ships, or, that there's a major petrol price-hike looming. Maybe starting next Monday. These "scenarios" have happened before. People "panic" and try to stock up with as much as they can at the old price, which means less petrol all-around, not to mention the amount of petrol wasted in the queues.
Might wanna merge this thread with http://balipod.com/bali-expat-forum-...ns-t20808.html
Thanks for that, Nakal
I'm still in the dark.
Maybe I should ask the bakso seller out front. Or a passing taxi driver...
All will be revealed tomorrow (or the next day). I've still got a quarter of a tank of fuel left.
:D
No Panic here in Makassar and I have filled up twice in the last 4 days.

Have a look at this message http://news.indahnesia.com/item/2008040 ... pplies.php . It seems that it will be a problem for at least 3 days more.
