Recently the national chief of police ( the title eludes me) made a statement that there would be no"on the spot" payment to poloice officers for traffic violations; instead all fines were to be paid at court.
Soon thereafter my driver was stopped for running a red light in Denpasser. The officer took his driver's license, cited the infraction, and issued a ticket which was to paid on April 23rd.or in a reasoable time thereafter. During the ticket issuance the tape was on the officer's handphone which would have provided a record of any offer the driver might have made for "on the site settlement"
Upon phoning the court I learned that the offense woud cost 50,000rp. Subsequently appearing at court on the appointed I had only to pay 30,000rp.
I recite this incident here to all who may encounter a similar situation and not know of the new procedure. All my previous encounters have included an officer offering an on the spot payment solution, rather than my solicitation.
Well things have changed (at least for the time being) so please beware of the perils of on the spot payment.......it could be expensive.
