Only one thing I don’t like
Bali its Bali, bad-good you’ll find it anywhere you go
I like this paradise island and this is the reason why I have decided to build a house in Bali, not finished yet. It should have been finished in October, never mind.
I dislike very little of Bali, but the thing I really detest it’s the traffic up and down Poppies 1&2. The motorbikes are, without any doubts the worse one.
I don’t mind them so much on other roads, well I do also, but in Poppies 1&2 I can’t stand them, really pi** me off.
Walking up and down, even if you are extra careful still very dangerous. Cars are less dangerous since can’t go fast.
What do you think about the following suggestion:
1) Poppies 1&2 should be close to traffic (completely) maybe a bit harsh considering the delivery.
2) Introducing a one way system?
3) No motorbike at all?
4) Maybe have all 3 above?
Maybe we should make a suggestion to the local authority.
The forum, as Mimpimanis said before in a different topic, it has been very quiet for the past 3 or 4 days so I’ve decided to start a new topic.
Regards
As an expat in Bali I have never been down Poppies 1&2 and am unlikely to have need to.
I have only been there when I have had to overnight in Bali on my way to Lombok before we had a house here.
So I can't really comment on the traffic situation there.

Poppies 2 is actually one-way, for cars anyway. Motor bikes head in all directions, usually trying to get around the cars, and this occasionally also includes riding on the very narrow footpaths. I don't find it that dangerous to negotiate mainly because everything moves so slow due to the congestion. I have noticed a lot more tourists are riding motorbikes these days and they often have little understanding of the unwritten rules, add to that a few long surfboards carried either on bikes or by hand, and it does make for interesting viewing.
In my own opinion, I think Kuta should be sold to Australia and officially adopted as one its possessions. There is nothing Balinese about Kuta anymore anyway, much of its population isn't Balinese, and think of all the money that could be spent in the rest of Bali to be sure that it remains at least partially recognizable.
What the heck...through in Legian and Seminyak and make it a package deal! :P
Sorry but I don’t agree with you (ONLY) regarding

Since most of the times there is not real congestion and the motorbikes are going very fast indeed.
Of curse when congested the traffic it’s not dangerous.
I didn’t want to include the rest of Bali’s roads but only the Poppies which are very narrow, ALSO without pavements and packed with tourist.
Very good ideaWhat the heck...through in Legian and Seminyak and make it a package deal!

Poppies 1 is not wide enough for cars at the Jl Legian end, so has 2-way traffic for as far as it is wide enough for 1 car. I hate driving into Poppies 1 - but am happy enough in a taxi.
Poppies 2 is one-way from beach to Jl Legian, but like everywhere else in Bali, motorbikes go both ways.
Both are well known for budget accommodation (from around Rp100,000) with places like Kedin Inn in Poppies 1 and Tunjung Bali in Poppies 2. You need to choose carefully if you want a car-parking space.
how about giving it to singapore roy? selling it might be ambitious.. if such happened, kuta would quickly become indonesia's hk.. businesses in indonesia would abandon jakarta to head for kuta.. haha, a funny thought.. :lol:Originally Posted by Roy

As said before, if you don't like the madness of Poppies 1 and 2 then don't go there. You have said it pees you off so you must have been there.
Why stress, there are lots of other places to go in Bali where you won't stress.
I personally don't mind Kuta ( but I am an Aussie ) and I actually do own( well lease ) a very small piece of Pasar Agung Poppies 1.
So therefore Roy, I am doing my bit to buy up Kuta ! :D :D
You can't close it to traffic as the shops/restaurants/hotels need the ability to be serviced by trucks etc.
You can make it one way , which it supposedly is, but tell the motorbike riders that because they even go the wrong way down JL Legian.
So you may as well just leave it...
Cheers

Hell, I hate Kuta as much as most expats seem to..it's a dirty, horrible, tacky blot on the landscape but it's still Bali and as much a part of Bali as the old world, more traditional and rural, parts further north, just as Denpasar, which Is chaotic, filthy and run down is a part of Bali.In my own opinion, I think Kuta should be sold to Australia and officially adopted as one its possessions.
And lets not forget that it's bought massive amounts of employment, money and Kuta Beach was a big part of what's pulled millions of people here for decades.
I know a few shopkeepers in Jl Legian and Poppies 2 and they, and are their staff are very much Balinese regardless of whether they live in, what they would think of as, the old way (they often don't).
