Watching the news today fills me with sadness once more. All over the world it is death and destruction from natural disasters to wars, terrorism. Puts all petty arguments, work and other problems in perspective.
At times like these it just makes me want to be with my family even more than usual. I am off to Sharjah on a business trip on Monday for two weeks and then a month off before coming back to Kazahkstan on July 1st........maybe I won't. :( :( :(

Jimbo, sad and useless knowing there is nothing we can do to change it !
We are living in interesting times.
Enjoy your family.

Well I did promise to bury my head in the sands of Lovina if Clinton won the election :D but you cannot get away from the news no matter what you do in this modern world.Originally Posted by mimpimanis

I'm with Mimpi - when I lived in Lombok, no TV, no radio, no newspapers, and limited internet. I didn't even know the pope had died for about a week after the event, and then only because someone on the beach told me. Can't say I really missed anything important by not being bombarded daily with the bad news of the world. I was more focused on the needs of my local community. But I can't live that way now, being in the city and back in the rat race.
After Jims post I went onto bbcnews.com and saw abouth the quake in China... so I guessed that was what he was talking about. If it was anything to do with american politics I dont have a clue and I wouldnt have even when I was living in UK. British politics turns me off enough never mind another country's! I didnt even know Tony Blair was out in Uk till months after, never mind days.

Mimpi, the other dreadful thing going on at the moment is the situation in Burma. They had a bad cyclone and estimates are up to 100,000 dead. The Burmese government is refusing to let aid workers in to help the people, and more are now dying of disease, hunger, and exposure. They estimate 80% of the rice crop has been wiped out, so long term it is a bad situation. Things are only going to get worse. There is now talk by the UN of intervention to prevent a humanitarian disaster - forceably entering Burma and bringing aid to the dying.
Bury your heads - that is such a great help!
I dont think its about burrying the head.
I do read and listen, i think knowledge is wise, but it all leaves me a with a futile, hopeless feeling,
Because There is nothing i can do about it !
i am not talking about charity, or helping where i can. But with politics,
natural disastours, earthquakes, murders, terrorism, what can i do ?
