My wife and I are moving from the USA to Ubud.
I have a ton of questions but will start with these.
1. Cargo shipping from USA to Bali anyone have suggestions?
2. The KITAS visa says that there is an annual charge of $1,300 would this also apply to my wife since she is from Singapore?
3. What are motorcycle prices like for something brand new?
4. From Ubud where is the closest place to surf? I am a beginner but plan to spend a lot of time getting better.
5. Has anyone brought a pet from the USA to Bali?
6. I am a software engineer and hope to be able to continue with my trade over there. Any suggestions on where to look for work in the programming field?
7. What are the different internet options in Ubud?
Thanks
p.s. If anyone actually lives in Ubud please send me a private message.
When are you moving? Ubud is about an hour and half drive to surfing when the traffic is good. Buying a motorcycle... there is or was a motorcycle store in UBUD don't know if it is still there. You probably would be
better off buying....once you get your sea legs so to speak regarding prices etc. So you are not taken for a ride if you get what I mean. As far as internet options in Ubud....good luck....most of the time they are so slow with connections...however, once you get your place be certain you have home access. Read through all the information available on this site and alot of your questions will be answered. Before you ship your loot over go their and stay for away and get aclimated to everything under the sun.
As far as pets.....read the questions and answers concerning bring in pets. Most of us will not divulge are answers because we don't know you.
Good luck....
Whitecow, there is currently a rabies epidemic in Bali and, as a result, no dogs or cats are allowed to legally enter the island. This is an absurd ruling since a dog vaccinated against rabies isn't a danger to the current epidemic. The dog that began the epidemic was an unvaccinated dog coming off a boat from Floris.
If they have all the proper vaccinations, including rabies they can land in Jakarta and go through two weeks of quarantine there.
What animals were you thinking of importing?

Hi - I am moving to Bali end of this week. There are some things that I want to ship over. Up until now I have tried to organize this thru my sponsor's shipping agent, but the price for the US to Surabaya part is extremely high. I have some good quotes from US companies, but am hesitating to take a company that might not be good at the paperwork....
Did you have a good experience? Or is there anyone that can recommend a US shipping agent? We are leaving from Los Angeles.
Any tips are greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you
Wondering how you managed with the cats?
We have 2 and heard it was 6 months of quarantine, is it 2 weeks?
I would think your chances of finding a software engineering job on the island wouldn't be great as you'd be competing against a whole lot of very qualified Indonesians who would be willing to work for a lot less than you. But quite a few IT people I know who live in Bali work for overseas companies, which has the added bonus that get get paid in hard currency.
