Haven't frequented here a lot lately.. Nice changes Bert!
All is well right now, I am currently in Holland, and my wife is in Bali. We are expecting our first baby in September!! :P I have gotten a job offer at one of the international schools in Bali.
In may, I will leave Holland and make my final move to Bali.
I am going on a social visa at first, and after things are arranged with work, I will go out to Singapore for a work visa.
Questions I have is:
- I am 90% sure that i need a return ticket or at least some sort of ticket outbound. I have read something on here about tiger air. What are good options pricewise?
- Which visa agency is recommended to handle this?
- Is it possible at all to arrange a work permit in Singapore?
- Should I already be planning these Visa runs with a company in Bali or Singapore? Because I have to get a ticket date for like, november or sth. Should I play save and opt for a few days in Singapore, so I do not need to worry too much. (regarding holidays, visa agency closed, or what not..you never know..)
Anyway, probably some more questions will arise later, I am ofcourse searching around with the function ofcourse..
As far as living, we have a nice house in Tuban, some land in Canggu, and with me trying to get a job at an international school, I am all set. The visa's however are tricky..
Last but not least, I have read somewhere that former Indonesians can opt for an indonesian passport. I was adopted, and have a birth certificate. However, never owned a family card. Does anybody have any experience with this? Can this speed up the process of owning a passport?
Thanks,
Theo
I realize this probably needs to moved to VISA related.. Sorry..
To add:
I did a quick search, and found out about visa stuff in Singapore. Seems that obtaining a social visa over there, is much easier. In Singapore, is it required to show a RETURN ticket? Because if that is not the case, it is much easier and much cheaper and saves me a lot of hassle in The Hague in Holland..
Theo,
I've been working in international schools for 19 years. I've never heard of a reputable one that doesn't arrange your visa for you. Why are you doing this by yourself, if I might ask?
Sent a PM Bruce.
Hi, Theo
Maybe, maybe not. Check the archives on this site....I am 90% sure that i need a return ticket or at least some sort of ticket outbound...
Again...maybe or maybe not. Could depend on how long you've been out of Indonesia. It's my understanding that even indigenous Indonesians living abroad need to be careful if they're away for >5 (?) years, or they risk losing their citizenship. Something stupid like that....Last but not least, I have read somewhere that former Indonesians can opt for an indonesian passport. I was adopted, and have a birth certificate. However, never owned a family card. Does anybody have any experience with this? Can this speed up the process of owning a passport?...

:D
Hi Sanurian,
the return ticket, well, it would just bum me out if I go all the way to the consulate in Holland and they refuse me a visa.. But like it is with these matters, always maybe / maybe not.. I will now go for a much cheaper option, buying a cheap ticket Padang-Singapore to show the consulate I'll be leaving..
Well, I have dutch passport, all I ever owned was a birth certificate. But perhaps by flashing this, things might speed up in regards to obtaining an Indonesian pp..
The school doesn't have a formal legalized status yet. It is already up and running, but limited visa options..
Theo
(not too good with the quote stuff yet  ..)
I know about the having-a-cheap-ticket-out-of-Indonesia scenario. I used to have one from Medan-Penang with MAS for years. Don't know if that's an option these days but it used to be the cheapest flight out of Indonesia (that I could find). It later became Medan-Kuala Lumpur.
Maybe yes, maybe no. I don't know....Well, I have dutch passport, all I ever owned was a birth certificate. But perhaps by flashing this, things might speed up in regards to obtaining an Indonesian pp...
Whilst that doesn't surprise me, per se, it does sound a bit worrying. I hope the school gets its "registration"/licences, etc, soon. If it were me, I wouldn't work in a set-up like that. Good luck, in any event....The school doesn't have a formal legalized status yet. It is already up and running, but limited visa options...
:D
Sanurian,
having limited visa options is not negative per se. In this situation it means that they can't sponsor people (yet) who are not native English speaking.

This has been a while. Guess that people who arrive in Bali, do tend to not frequent the website anymore.. :D
All is well, I am living the dream and happy with my family here in Kuta. My wife, now almost 6 months pregnant, is doing fine and everything is healthy! (Kasih Ibu is our hospital)
So I thought I would just drop a note, and hope to visit the site some more again..

Great news Theo, and good luck with the new baby! Be sure to stop by more often and also be sure to post a picture of the wee one when he or she arrives! Cheers
