    Default motorbikes 250cc for hire?

    Happy New Year

2 guests staying at a friends place in Tulamben, want to hire 2 x motorbikes, about 250cc, not scooters, when they get down south. Does anyone have suggestions where they might be able to hire something like that?

Not many bikes for hire at 250cc level. They could opt for a Honda Tiger or a Honda Phantom, both 200cc bikes. Tigers are easier to obtain; most hire places could source one or two for them.

thanks for that - they wanted to arrange it before getting "down south" , and that's pretty much impossible. I spoke to a friend who does "transport" and even he could not help.

The reason behind this is usually based on insurance , and bike choices available in indonesia .

Firstly insurance concerns are that travel insurance companies policies clearly state ( in the fine print ) that they will not pay out for and damage to rented motorcycles over 200cc.

There are not many choices available for bikes over 200cc , You have the newest pulsar , Yamaha scorpio , the old 250 suzuki thunder , and these are imported bikes and there is not too many around . The ones that are usually privatly owned for personal use .

Outside of that ..., I did recently see a "rent me " sign sitting on a kawasaki klx 250 d-tracker in jalan Legian , but that was 1 bike and not two ..., and I suspect that bike ( and others like it ) that are on offer for rent are also privatly owned for personal use ..., but the owner is posibly having some cash flow problems , and temporarily renting the bike is their solution to meeting repayments.

Considering there are much better performing bikes available in that class range (200-250 cc ) the honda tigers are a dime a dozen , made in indonesia , parts usually readily available in Bali ( without waiting for an order from Jakarta ) and fall under travel insurance payout guidelines - this makes the tiger the top choice for rental operators.

I can give you a few numbers of motorbike-rental friends to try, but can't promise anything.

Honda Tigers usually rent short term from Rp50 to 70.000 per day. Monthly from Rp650 to 750.000.
