The events of the last week has left us all stunned, jacked like a deer in the bright headlights of an oncoming car in the middle of the night. For the deer, the event is only momentary, but for us, we will remember this catastrophe for the rest of our lives.
Each of us has seen the heart-wrenching videos, and each of us has cried our tears. None of us living have ever seen such devastation and loss of life. We are all numbed by the endless images that burn in our minds and hearts, they being only a fraction of the piercing pain the survivor’s know.
Out of all this agony, the best of humanity has risen. From all nations, help is either on the way, or is already there in Aceh and all the other areas effected by this utter disaster. If this help and assistance is long lasting, and capable to see this through, it could change the face of SE Asia as we knew it just last week.
Considering all the pain that we are able to inflict upon ourselves, in small doses, a massive event such as this takes us aback and force feeds us with the reality of just how frail we really are.
I hope in the end, it will all add up to a new enlightenment. The sanctity and preciousness of life is nothing any of us should take for granted. I hope in the end, the leaders of many countries, realizing just how devastating an event like this can be, will understand that all life is precious…and the preservation of all life is a sacred path to follow.
In the end, as so many countries come together, sharing their grief, and sharing their aid, perhaps a new closeness of nations can result. Something positive, substantial and long lasting must come from all of this. If you pray, pray for the living. Pray that in this largest, most substantial world-wide effort for relief and aid, that a world wide bond is the result.
Yes Roy it is hard tomake sense of itall indeed. I watch fromthe comfort of my home the news and find it hard not to switch of when i see all the bodies, too many to count and some just lying there at the side of a busy road with just a tatty old sheet to cover the horriblesight from drivers as they go by. Hard to comprehend for sure, just hard to believe the force of human nature itself and the vulnerablility of us all to it when it strike a deadly blow. I know it has made a lot of people realise just how precious life is and how it can be ended just like that. One thing that has made me have some faith in the human race after recent events in history where people have killed and slaughtered each other in wars and still do daily is the warmth and generosity of millions coming together united to all try and help the countries affected by this disaster. I have been amazed by the sheer number of people from all sections of life, both rich and poor all giving what they can. There are people who have hardly enough to feed themselves yet they will give there last, those that have nothing to give, yet are helong the foreigners search for there loved ones. Yes i have restored faith in the human race and realise there are more good than bad and also more importantly that life is precious and we should make the most of it and realise how fortunate we are.
I can only finish by wishing all at the start of this New Year a happy one.
