    Default Living in Denpasar

My wife is Indonesian and I am American. We plan to move "permanently" to Bali in about a year. Her sister has a house in the Sidakarya part of Denpasar. It is a good house but not romantic like a villa in Ubud which we couldn't afford anyway. There are a lot of good practical reasons for living in Denpasar I think and the house is near the highway and within a few minutes of Sanur and so forth. What do you think? Thanks, Ricker

Be prepared to be spending a lot of time sitting in your car. Iman Bonjol is a carpark especially at this time of year and even the Bypass is congested during the day.
Mind you anywhere around the South of the island is crowded atm.

Am staying in a Kost just off Tukad Petanu which is near the location you are enquiring about and atm there is also flooding due to 2 days of constant rain.

    Cheers

Sidakarya is a strategic location and easy to get to Denpasar, Kuta, Seminyak or Sanur. Having the chance to live in your wife's sister home is I think a luxury many who plan to move to Bali don't have.

It's a good start and will give you a chance to take your time and look around for something better if you don't like Sidakarya.

Unless of course you are planning on buying her home?

Either way, good luck and (soon) welcome to Bali!

Maybe the trick is to get out early , I mean real early which is no problem for me. Wonder what the "rush hour" traffic patterns are? Thanks, Ricker

We might buy her home. Thanks for your response. It is how I was thinking about it and nice to get confirmation. Ricker

Hi rickerw, it's a good plan to start at this house. Don't be too worried about traffic. You and the traffic will come to terms with each other. Maybe it means going earlier or later or going a different route - but I am sure you will find a way.

    Hehe so true RonB .

Bali navigator is my friend and if the traffic looks too bad I just turn off and let the GPS sort out how to get me back on track.

I would rather drive around exploring somewhere new and eventually get to where I want to go than sit in a traffic jam for 1.5 hours ( which happened to me on Iman Bonjol just before christmas.)

Busy times seem to be around 7-9am and the afternoon about 3-5pm as this is roughly the time a lot of people try to get to work.

Buying in Denpasar may be good for some people but the constant traffic, noise, crowding gets to me after a while and I prefer a more calming location.

    Cheers
    Ken

Best thing now is you can rent one and see if it works for you.

    Welcome to Balinavigator

    Cheers
