WAYANG DASA NAMA KERTA alias WAYANG SKATEBOARD in Kuta this weekend!


Wayang Dasa Nama Kerta (the Ten Names of Peace) shadow puppet show that YKIP sponsored in 2002 after the October 12th bomb blasts has been resurrected and
updated. Dalang/puppeteer I Made Sidia and team have made new puppets and will be performing for the cleansing ceremonies taking place this week in front of Raja's Bar and Cafe at Kuta Square.

This Wayang tells the story of the God Siwa who descends to earth to look for his wife Uma whom he has cursed as a demoness. In order to meet her, he himself must transform into a demon. On earth, he and his cohorts wreak havoc, burn down all the forests and generally heap death and destruction upon all the land.
The other Gods devise a plan to coax Siwa back to heaven by performing various kinds of traditional dances and shadow plays. The demons watch in amazement as Siwa comes back to his senses and returns to heaven.

Imbedded in this story are subtexts about the demons within each and every one of us and we can overcome conflicting emotions. Puppets who represent the bomb victims will make an appearance and information about where to get free trauma counseling will be given out by the Kanaivasu team..

This Wayang uses a five-meter wide screen, six dalangs on skateboards and power point images, not to mention that the music combines traditional gamelan music with keyboard and African instruments.
