Default Just a friendly hi from a newly arrived x-pat

    Hi all,

I just wanted to give a friendly hello. I arrived in Bali 2 saturdays ago and have been enjoying myself greatly. I am teaching english at a hotel & restaurant managagment school in Dalung and will be here for atleast 2 months.

Thank you all who have posted suggestions and tips for living in Bali. They have made the transition a little easier.

If there is someplace that many of you meet on a regular basis, I would enjoy getting a chance to meet with you.

    Again, hi and thanks.

    Chad

Geeez Bert! Couldn't you say a little more than "thanks and welcome?"

Chad, welcome to Bali. Please be sure to do a search on "Bert's tips" for the best and most effective condoms on Bali. Those "tips" are required reading here.

Understanding that you will be far, far too busy to messing on this forum, I think we all can say welcome, and "that's it."

Seriously, keep your wits about you, as best you can, and if you need immediate assistance, you can PM most of us.

Most effective condoms? Have you been drinking?

Yikes! You mean you never broken through one? That’s what I meant by “effective” or in other words, jail break proof!

No, not drinking, just euphoric for other reasons, and checking in here. :D

When are you and Dewi heading to Ubud next?

    Thank you Bert and Roy,

I don't think I will be needing the condom advice. I actually did come here for the cultural experience and not the women, who are beautiful by the way, just not currently looking for that now, in any form be it one or many nights. But again thanks.

Also, I am no immediate need, just curious about social gatherings. Eventually it will be nice to meet some people who 1) speak fluent english and 2) aren't one or two weekers on holiday. I will however remember your offer should I find my self in need.

I might even read the condom bit. :)

As far as being too busy to write, I doubt that. Teaching 3 hours a day is hardly that time consuming, plus I am stuck in Dalung until I get regular transportation. Which reminds me, any good advice on 1) either renting a scooter for a couple of months; 2) best to buy and re-sell? 3) Places for a good deal.

Thanks again and glad to be apart of forum.

Does anyone post here from Kuta? Chad, I don't know Kuta much, or where in that area is a good place to "hook up" with other expats.

In any event, if you've come to Bali for the cultural experience, by all means, "get thee to Bali." It ain't Kuta, but I expect you've already figured that out.

Personally, to get out of Kuta, cheap, cheap, I'd take a Bemo. Last thing I'd do is plant my disappearing arse on a motor bike. Hell, it's hard enough to balance myself on two feet, yet, two wheels!

    Chad,

Welcome to Bali. Kuta huh...well I live there. Feel free to PM me and I'll give you the details of where I live and HP # and the like.

Good place to 'Hook Up'? Hehe...how so? Meet girls? Meet expats? Meet locals? Whom are you looking for?

And Kuta isnt as bad as some persons make it out to be...it all depends on what you are looking for. I freely admit it isnt the culture capital of Bali though...but I would also argue that most persons arent here (Kuta) in search of 'culture' (whatever that is...any takers on that one?)

Condoms? Better to have one and not need it than not have one and need it.

    Jeffrye,

Thanks for the reply. I apologize for my loose use of words in "hook up." What I meant to say was meet up with, for friendly exchanges.

As far as the culture experience, I guess its hard to say that I am not being exposed to a differenc culture, when home is thousands of miles away and very few people speak fluent english nor is the food Americanized, unless your counting the few fast food chains. Additionally, not to be arguementative, but from Middle America I was coming to Bali in search of a change in culture, but I do agree that Kuta beach is not the Bali meca of Balinesian culture. I do however live in Dalung 7-10 km from the beach, if that counts.

As far as being in the situation to need a condomn and not have one, I agree with the boy scout's in always being prepared. :)

    Take care,
    Chad
