New year ... just a couple of days...
How celebrate you new year? With fireworks, gala dinner, friends, family or very intimate with candlelight dinner... or just alone... than you need this time to think about the past and the future?
Itīs absolut about habits everyone. I like spend my time with me and since i married (about 14 years ago) i use sylvester to speak to each other about our dream about change etc...
I organize my desk before sylvester... so i can say welcome new year.
In Jakarta i The first time i celebrate new year in Germany, i learned how many fireworks in just one night... was nice but too much is too much.
And the first time i celebrate new year in Madrid, i find other way to celebrate ... New Year in Madrid begin with the ringing of the bells at the midnight, as soon as the clock strikes 12. People gather at the Puerta del Sol Square in Madrid and wait for the bell to ring and mark the entry of the New Year. The 12 Grape eating custom is what makes New Year in Madrid unique. People keep 12 grapes ready and as soon as the clock strikes 12 at the midnight, they eat the 12 grapes symbolizing the 12 months of the year.
In Jakarta... new year party with trumpets... Sometimes i missed that, than my mother bought me always big trumpet. And in Bali? I celebrated new year 1990 with my friends just with a nice dinner.
This year... i hope, i can enjoy new year with good mood, without any jeaulos to you, who celebrate new year in Bali.

Hi Allan, Dyah & Gemma
Thanks for your kind thoughts. It has been a pretty rough year - my husband was diagnosed with TB just before Christmas last year, and despite getting the best treatment available in Indonesia his condition grew steadily worse. Because of the TB he could not get a visa for Australia, where he could have got better quality medication, so it was a difficult situation to be in.
I am just grateful I was able to fly to Jakarta and be with him for the last week.

Nothing can take away the pain you are feeling but in turning to your extended family in Indonesia you can share that loss. One of the things I love about Indonesia is my extended family who are and have been the family I never had.
Good luck to you.
