In Carrefour yesterday we saw that they are stocking some electric scooters.
Prices start at Rp4,700,000 and Iluh who has been thinking of getting a bike is interested. However there is real information on the flyer we picked up and there was nobory adound who could answer any questions. I have done a google and can just find specification type info.
So looking for info from anyone who knows anything about them or better still has one!
1) Is it really more economical than petrol as the flyer says? How much electricity to charge the bike?
2) having said that... as it says how economical and energy freindly, do you recharge from your power supply or are they solar????
3) How far/long could you go one one charge? Iulh wold want to use it to get home to Lombok frm time to time so... say 4 hours driving.
4) At 49cc would it be powerful enough for only her or would she be able to carry a passenger?
She can't thnk of any more questions at the moment. But that's a good start if anyone can help.
Thanks :)

Thanks Lumumba
That was great for general info.
I Would still appreciate any specific feedback if anyone is actually using any of the locally available models here in Bali.

Based on the info we have so far Iluh has decided its a no go.
Main reason being what the hell she does if the battery goes while she's out? There are no "charge stations" here.
Maybe it is one of the reasons the bikes are so cheap here, whereas the article you sent says they are more expensive than regular bikes.

Do you need a charge station, or can you just plug it into a power socket?
the concept of all electric vehicles is great as long as you can charge them from a renewable energy supply.
as long as you plug them into a socket in your house in Bali/Lombok, that power is derived from power stations which burn heavy bunker oil , coal, or even straight deisel.
as a result, there will be no saving in fuel costs. add that to the fact that if you run out of battery power you'll have to leave it on the side of the road where itll be stolen, and in my eyes it makes it a pretty unatractive package.
the most renewable energy here comes from tapping into your neighbours supply.
A power socket. However in Europe (apparently) there are charge stations (maybe in petrol stations) where you can recharge when your battery is low.Do you need a charge station, or can you just plug it into a power socket
Apart for running around here Iluh wants to be able to go to Lombok and back and we arent sure if the battery would handle one way without dieing.
It would be cheaper to run for Iluh as I would be paying for the electricity. :wink:the most renewable energy here comes from tapping into your neighbours supply

I have actually considered getting one of these myself for just quick trips to the beach or shops in Bali. I have a pamphlet on them in the office so I can give you some details tomorrow. At the moment I am swaying more to a small cc petrol bike, only because if I run out of juice I can always get petrol, but not always easy to plug into electric supply if away from home base. Actually on the subject, would appreciate any info on 50cc petrol scooters in Bali, can you get them and any other info would be great?
I will get out the pamphlet and post the specs tomorrow for you.
Thanks Toucan.
If a 50cc petrol bike is cheaper than a 100/120cc I am sure Iluh will be interested. :)

According to the promotional material the electric scooters will do a top speed of 35kph, with a distance of 45-55kms per charge. They come with a little battery pack which you just plug in to charge. They also have pedals in case the battery goes flat. They look cute, like a normal scooter almost. The 50cc motor bikes are very cheap to run, max speed is around 50kph. The new models come with everything, automatic, electric start, immobiliser, carry box etc. There are some very nice models available in Oz now, Vmoto Milan, Honda Today, Honda Scoopy, Zoot, Vespa etc. I have tried to google 50cc motor bikes in Bali but with no luck, so would still appreciate anyone letting me know if they have seen them there.
