I was wondering if the current economic downturn is changing your plans in any way in either moving to Bali or having to leave.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day.
Spicy my plans have'nt been altered but it wont be five star anymore :(
Nantiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Hai spicyayam,
so far so good... I am still living on Bali and don't expect to leave here soon or have to change my expenses. Economic downturn, financial crisis, all very good reasons for one to change his/her plans, either freely (cautious-people) or forced (not having enough money-people).
Like Anton said, people can still spend their days on Bali by changing their budget, the main thing in a person's life is being happy where you are, I mean better to be on Bali with a smaller budget, then for example being on Iceland with loads of money  , no disrespect to any Icelanders on the forum :), btw speaking of Iceland, is their currency already changed to Russian Roebel
Here's a pic for people who are not yet on this beautiful Island, but hopefully for them can still realize their dream/plans and enjoy these kind of views in reality.

friendly greetings....Gilbert.
don't read between the lines..i think the words are clear enough...:)
I wouldn't say it's changed my plans but it's delaying my move there. The economic meltdown predominantly caused by certain foreign governments poor economic policy and big business greed (IMHO) has directly or indirectly effected most of us including myself. I'm still planning but just having to crunch the numbers over and over again. I feel sorry for those of retirement age that were relying on their superannuation. They might be working another year or two yet .
Nice Pic there Gil. If I squint my eyes a little bit I can just about imagine I'm sitting on the beach with a cold one rather than sitting in a cold one (England) having a bitch.
Yes. I am having to work because of it and the affect it had on my savings and investments.
Regards Jimbo
Like jimbo, i am recosidering the timing of my plans. Maybe i will still come to Bali to live , but fly in/out of Bali to work in aussie.
Not so much really, I left the states right before the economy tanked, and am lucky for that. I have learned to live in Indonesia on very little, so at this point my economic situation can only get better. I'm already here, so that helps too.
Short answer - No! We also came before the trouble. Now as we watch finance reports on TV it all seems so far away - another world. Of course the value of my invested funds has decreased. But you can live here inexpensively - so no looming crunch on the horizon.Originally Posted by calitobali
And tourism in Bali stills seems very active, so there are no noticeable changes in Bali yet.
The economical downturn did not change any of my plans in Indonesia. I arrived here about 8 years ago, invested money here way before the global crisis, and can not say I feel any consequences in my everyday life here. I feel lucky for that.
However, it contributed to convince me (if needed) that I should be extra careful with business in Europe. The two companies I own there have seen their turnover decreased by almost 30% in 2008 and I don't think that 2009 is gonna be much better. :(
