Doing Time for giving to beggars

Gee,

in Makassar you can get upto three months in jail if you give to beggars. It seems the people there have caused a growth of beggars from 870 to 2600 in two years time with their generosity.

I remember seeing some more beggars than usual on the bypass in 2007....

They weren't beggars Bert, they were just newsboys trying to sell you a worthless Dutch language newspaper! :P

They usually offer a Jakarta Post or another English language paper. I say, "Tidak bisa bahasa inggris", and if I am lucky the light turns green before they find me a Bali or Jawa Post...

I just yell "suda" and if they insist, there is always the "ma'af, saya bodoh." That one always stops them like a gut shot, and allowing enough time to move on.
