Cost of living for a family

Hi

I am considering a job offer that would mean moving to Bali. I know the Island well but as a tourist not an expat.

My question is quite simple really- can a family of 3 live comfortably on about USD 2500 a month? Our child is 1 & we would want to live somwhere with 3 bedrooms and possibly a pool reasonably near to Kuta etc. A bit of help with our son & around the house would be great too!

I would really appreciate any advice & information. I have had a look through previous postings and can see that the cost of living has been covered before but any comments would be most welcome.

You could live very comfortably on £2500 per month.

You can live very comfortably on USD 2500 per month. You can live comfortably on less, if you live a lifestyle that is not long on non-necessary luxury items and some of the chi-chi designer stuff that has become part of the southern scene in Bali over the past few years.

I have my own house in Indonesia so I have no rent to pay. My expenses are about the following:

Food $400
Utilities, Gas, water, electric, telephone $200
Transport $100
Extras, Indovision, internet etc $200
Incidentals $100

If you had to rent this varies considerably and depends on your preferences but with your budget you could get something really pleasant. I have not included for clothes etc. I hope this gives you some idea.

Any real estate website that is aimed at westerners is going to be more expensive. can I suggest rumahraya.com, rumahku.com or even semata wayan jaya property, as a more reasonable option.

I lived in bali with my wife for 2 years(2004 ~ 2006). My salary was 3.5 million rupiah per month so the answer is yes.

I had a look at those sites (only after suggesting them to someone else looking for accomodation in Bali) The first one I could only find one house in Bali for sale in the first 10 pages or so of details. The second one doesnt appear to work.
