Default Change phone provider but keep number

Has anyone tried changing phone provider and taking your old number with you? I know it is possible in other countries but somehow I don't think it's possible in Indonesia?

    My current provider (Telkomsel) sucks.

if you're on pulsa (prepaid) you can't, but if you have an abbonement wich you pay monthly then you can.

    why does telkomsel suck?

Thanks Gilbert. I guess I should ask Telkomsel directly. I didn't think this as possible. The question now is to what provider do I change.

    As for Telkomsel sucks;

My phone signal is not reliable so I think I am missing a lot of calls.

My internet package with them (through a seperate modem) is super slow which I think is because to many users sharing the same connection.

I think if it is super slow, the reason is either
    1. you are not getting a 3G connection (which they flag as 3G, or HSDPA), but just 2G (which they often flagged as EDGE)
    2. they have throttled the connection because you have already used up the monthly allowance

When you are on a 3G connection, but not throttled, then you are competing with other users of the same network, but you usually get download speeds of around 2 Mb

IMHO , i think youll get less coverage than you already have with another provider . Telkomsel/simpati is regarded as having the widest overall coverage ..., sure its not your phone ?

yeah...like balidavo says, better check your phone too..
as for providers, I'm on IM3 with the mobile...no problems,
internetmodem is on a smartcard and I have no complaints..
the housephone is on a flexicard, and also a-ok.

Telkomsel has admitted that there is an issue with the antennae nearest to where I am living. They have said they would fix the issue but several months later that hasn't happened yet and I am still stuck with an unreliable signal and know for a fact that I am missing calls.

I only have issues where I live. Not in other parts in Bali where the phone signal is reliable. So, it is not my phone. I can either move near a better antenae or choose a different provider.

    ooo okidoki...
then this might be a solution to not miss any calls :
take another number from other provider, then forward all your incoming calls on your telkomsel number to the new providernumber.
