Default Bringing a Motorbike registered in Bali to Lombok

I want to do another trip back to Kuta, Lombok soon as I loved it so much there the last time I went, as it was so relaxing and beautiful. Last time I had a friend who does business in Lombok that was already there, so his driver picked us up in Lembar when we got off the ferry.

This time I want to go with my girlfriend, and want to bring my motorbike on the ferry, to avoid having to catch a taxi or dealing with the shady guys arranging transport (after being in the harbor in Lombok, I am no longer too annoyed by the hawkers in Bali).

I have heard though that there are registration, driver's license checks and all sorts of other things that could get in my way. I'm sure most problems could be avoided with the right amount of a "tip", but still want to know what I'm getting into. Also I've heard that my Bali registration for my motorbike is not valid in Lombok, because it is a different area of Indonesia altogether. Can anyone who has brought a motorbike to Lombok clear all of this up?

I have a car with a Jakarta plate, had a bike with a Jakarta plate.

Doesn't matter where you car or bike is registered. You can drive all over Indonesia with it.

As long as it is valid. (Date wise spoken)
    That's It !!

    Hi calitobali,

if your bike has a valid stnk and you have a license, you can drive your bike everywhere you want inside Indonesia. Would be also less of a hassle if the stnk is in your gf-name. She's coming with you on the trip and has her KTP to verify the bike is not stolen.
Some bike's (like my bandit) doesn't have a stnk but is registered in some other way, but that is only valid on Bali. If I would want to take that bike outside of Bali, I would have to ask for a 'surat perjalanan' at the policeoffice. Allright calitobali...have safe drive and a great trip to Lombok :) .
    friendly greetings.............Gilbert.

    Hi Cali

As the others have said there is no problem. I bring my Bali registred car to Lombok and my husband is back and forth all the time some of our bikes are registred in Lombok and one in Bali.

Some places renting cars and bikes will not allow you to bring them to Lombok.

If you haven't been down south check it out. South Lombok has some stunning beaches. Better than any beach I have seen on Bali.

    Have a great trip.

I've been to Kuta before. We planned to spend one night in Kuta and one in Senggigi, but ended up spending both in Kuta as there was too many nice beaches to see. I'm not sure of when I will be going but I will e-mail you first, i am interested in staying at your homestay.

Like I said last time I was picked up by my friend's driver, but if I come again I will be riding my motorbike, I forget, is it hard to find Kuta? I don't remember if the roads were well marked.

The roads are not well signed. Getting out of Lembar to Kediri is the first step once you get that far its quite easy. One straight road as far as Praya. Once you go through the Welcome to Praya sign look for a right turn with Billboards and a Police post on the corner (dont go right into Praya) Take that turn, then at the end of the road right again and then it's one road into Kuta.

Maybe you can ask to follow someone who is going as far as Kediri?
