    Default Baby Girl Names

Here's one for the creative / historical thinkers for you! If you have no suggestions but know a link that could help?

Looking for a middle name for a newborn baby girl, with Indo inclinations to represent her Indo family (step-grandmother, uncle + extended Batak family....!) and the frequent visits she will make. I find batak names either too harsh, or anglicised, and have always preferred Balinese names. It's a symbolic rather than a geographical thing as she is living in London (at the moment - but will be a frequent if not permanent visitor) Names with a meaning are always good. Thanks! 8)

I have always liked Srikandi - below is a description i found after doing a google on the name.

The characters of "Srikandi" and "Sumbadra", two of Arjuna's seven wives, have significant meaning for Indonesian women. "Srikandi" represents a willful and assertive female. She is a popular symbol for Indonesia's women's movement. She is thought of as intelligent, decisive, assertive, courageous, combative and beautiful. The shadow puppet in her image shows a very different posture from Arjuna's "other wife", "Sumbadra." "Srikandi's" face is uplifted, looking one straight in the eye; she struts forth with a wide step, appearing to wear pants which are above her knee and she sports a "kris", a man's dagger, in her belt. She wears a flower in her hair and is confident.

I've never thought of the name as being quite as defiant as the description above ....

We have a vested interest in the name Sophie Mayasari which is shortened to Maya. Cheers.

    Thanks guys,
We didn't have a name until she was born, nothing seemed to fit. Now I can't imagine yelling ANYTHING else at the top of my lungs or whispering anything else at the end of the day...

Maya was the name of the mother of Siddhartha Gautama who went on to some degree of notoriety as the embodiement of the Buddha.

Sari can be defined as essence or nectar, as in "sari bunga"-that of a flower , or "sari nadi" the essence of life.
