Hi All,
New to Bali (as in living here) and need to open an account. I am a Kiwi who has lived in Oz for the last 30 years, now working in the Philippines in the gold mining industry and so will be flying in and out of Bali as my roster allows. My wife will remain in Bali (just rented a house for 12 months in Sanur area (north).
I have been chatting to the ANZ and out of the banks they seem to be open to me creating a new account without a Kitas visa.
What I need however is a "friend" who has an existing Indo ANZ account and can write a simple letter stating that
You know me, and have you an account with them. They do not require any bond, you to go guarantor, etc etc. Just a simple plain letter.
can anyone help?
Happy to have a few beers etc so I can give you back ground on myself so as to make you feel I'm ok and not some dodgy interloper.

I tried with CBA indonesia and they informed they share the same name, however, you still pay on aussie CBA cards as if it were a cirrus with set rates different then oz. ANZ i cannot comment on but will be suprised if they are not doing the same process.
Although i prefer WESTPAC as a personal choice, i have been obliged to use HSBC australia who provide all the options re internet key fob banking, transfers, credit cards online, transfers to indo banks online etc.
Here i use Mendiri however have heard permata offers online access and transfers only within indonesia.
Anyway hope it helps and would be interested to read the options ANZ offer
Strange, I have a friend who works for ANZ in Surabaya and she said I wasn't able to open an account. Maybe they've changed things up since the last time I checked. Is there are branch in Bali?

I get the impression that the bank is not affiliated with the ANZ in Australia. however it would appear that the ANZ (Oz) has a joint partner with Panin Bank, and they purchased the Bank of Scotland branches here in Indonesia.
ANZ seems to be trying to buy outright the Panin bank.
something like that
Ahhh I see, I'm a Kiwi also, i thought they had some sort of connection to the NZ branch

I don't think so, from what I've read and been told there is nothing available.

I think there is some connection. With banks, insurance companies, and airlines - to operate effectively in Indonesia you need to be an Indonesian company. So for Allianz or AIG insurance you find yourself dealing with an Indonesian PT company that is a subsidiary of the Global one. Then for Air Asia to gain landing rights in Indonesia and to be able operate domestic routes it needs to have an Indonesian company that is a subsidiary of the Malaysian company (they also have a Thai subsidiary). We use the Commonwealth Bank Indonesia which is an Indonesian company that is owned by the Commonwealth Bank Australia. I don't know about ANZ - but would guess it is something similar.
Cant believe you were told that old porky, we got told that but when it came to it we had to have kitas or the account had to be in a nominee name, you can have two names on it but only works on your signature, not sure about internet, transfers etc, however you can use western union to transfer cash here and change that, it beats the exchange rates at banks. would help if I could but dont think the bank has explained it properly. I use Mandiri but their exchange rate is sometimes not so hot. Anz Aus have a link with panin, and they are much faster. Do not use permata their exchange is the lowest also BCA is very poor exchange rate. We are going to open another account for hubby and are thinking commonwealth in aust dollars, just need to check that we get aus $ here over the counter so we can exchange for cash. Cash beats all bank exchange rates.
Good luck.
