HEY ALL, I am considering studying indonesian for a semester in yogyakarta, through the ACICIS program and am wondering if any of you have ever done this [or similar] or know anyone who has ? an what were your experiences?, and if there is a similar program that would allow me to study in bali instead instead of java?
cheers, dan
I know of people who have done it in high school and they have had A BALL !!! I also want to do it during my studies. I'll be doing mine through the uni I attend. :D
May I ask what course you are doing charlie?Im doing applied science [environmental tourism].
and did you take any photos of your teeth?
i d love to see em.
I'm doing a degree in modern languages with Indonesian as my language. you should ask your indonesian department if they do an exchange program.
That could be the all time weirdest request ever made on this forum. But, then again, my mom, who was a dental hygienist all of her life, used to marvel over the Balinese teeth when she visited here.and did you take any photos of your teeth? i d love to see em.
It was not uncommon for her to get any Balinese she wanted to examine to open their jaws like a great white shark.
Ninety-nine percent of the time, she was in awe. No fillings, no decay, and straightly aligned rows of pearly whites.
you won't believe it but a funny little friend who discovered the joys of a digital camera took a picture of our teeth !!! They're on my sister in laws camera so i now must try to get them !!!!  :lol:and did you take any photos of your teeth? i d love to see em.
HEY CHARLIE - Another thing i ve been looking at is the Darmasiswa program , it is a year long scholarship ,they pay you a monthly allowance of a million rp and you have a choice of studying bahasa indonesia , music, crafts, dance , an also the regional language for where you choose to study.
" Places are available at institutions in
Medan, Bukit Tinggi, Padang, Palembang, Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung, Semarang,
Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Denpasar, Mataram and Makasar.
As part of the scholarship (darmasiswa) program, there are a number of
Darmasiswa Plus positions where participants will be expected to teach a
foreign language at a Vocational High School or Teacher Training College
for 10 hours per week and to assist with the establishment of a language
club."
Dunno if this info is of any use to you charlie but there it is. I personally would love to do it one day, I reckon if your uni approved it you could get credit for it and get aus study as well :D
That sounds great - my uni does something similar. I wouldn't want to do longer than a semester though as i still have commitments here - and a husband - and if i was going to stay any longer i would already be living back there. Thanks for the info tho..... :D
no wuckaroonies charlie..dan.
