Default 1-time Impore of Personal effects

On another threat about importing booze, I noted the following:

More details on this 1-time import of personal effects would be helpful, I'm not thinking about importing a container load of booze, but:-
    1. How do you become eligible? Presumably tied to Kitas/residency permit?
    2. Is there an 'import tax' (official or unofficial)?
    3. What sort of things are classified as 'personal effects'? (furniture? maybe some home fittings&fixtures?solar electrical panel system? )
    4. Is there a size limit (cuM?)

Anyone with experience & interesting 'real life' cases of how 'elastic' the term personal effects might be would be appreciated

You move your place of residence from somewhere else to Indonesia. A plan that will get you to a KITAS some time after the relocation is enough - you don't have to have a KITAS before you relocate.

    No

Generally household contents. They want to see a detailed inventory of items at the Embassy/Consulate where you are getting your visa. Solar panels sound dubious.

Not really (as long as it looks as it came from one house).

We brought 40 cartons weighing 2000 KG by air freight. It was books, records, crockery, cutlery, other kitchen gear, tools, paintings, etc etc

We did the same as ronb but we had to pay over AU$2,000. to get our container of stuff through Surabaya. We couldn’t find a way around this if we wanted our stuff. The bribe in Surabaya cost 20% of what the movers charged.
