I found a good list here of Indonesian proverbs:
Indonesian proverbs - Wikiquote
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day.
Wiki is just astounding - I can't believe the lengths some people go to.
BTW: Has anyone ever heard the expression sleep like a chicken?
I asked a friend if he was a good sleeper and he said yes, but he sleeps like a chicken.
When I said WHAT THE! He said, it means I go to sleep easily but also rouse very easily (light sleeper). It's an expression; Sleep like a chicken.
Or sleep like a tiger (a heavy sleeper).
I found it hilarious and have since asked many Indonesians but nobody seems to have heard of it. They look at me like I'm nuts.
I'ts not on the list, well at least not under to Tidor.
Before you laugh too much, what about this well-known Western one?BTW: Has anyone ever heard the expression sleep like a chicken?
"Sleep like a baby"
If babies sleep so good, how come they wake up every couple of hours?
I have no problems with Sleep like a politician/police officer/president/immigration official/security staff/emergency telephone numbers/supermarket check-outs....
